Despicable! This business is a disgrace to this community and completely lacking in basic human decency. Do not reward them with your patronage. They are heartless, pathetic and cruel. They do not deserve to serve this wonderful city or neighborhood.
I should not have to reveal this, but I feel that it is important to note because it is a critical detail to my experience. I am a Type 1 diabetic with an insulin pump (for those who do not know it is a life-saving device that is permanently attached to my body to release insulin -- required to sustain my life). The device does not usually cause me any problems, but every once in a while I have a need to address an issue with the device.
I stopped in here on Sunday, September 3 to grab a few groceries. I'd jumped off the 5-Fulton to do some shopping on my way home. I shop here every so often... or at least I used to. I would stop in quickly, grab a few things, and then catch the next bus down Fulton feeling good that I spent my money at a small business. Ha, so much for that.
While in the store, I realized I had an issue with my pump that I knew I needed to deal with quickly. I asked to use their restroom so that I could figure out the problem (which required me to remove my top, so I needed a bit of privacy). I explained this to the female clerk, but she was not having it. She was rude, rude, RUDE! There was another customer that overheard the conversation and was like "Are you seriously not going to let her use the bathroom?". Nope, they were not.
Like, this could turn into a medical emergency. But they could not care less. I get it, we are in the city and public toilets are not a thing, but this is a life-sustaining device with an error. Would they rather have an ambulance come get me? Yes, apparently they would. F*ckers.
The other customer was nice enough to jump into action, offered me a quick ride to the Safeway a few blocks away who DID let me use the bathroom to fix the tubing on my pump before the situation became critical (thank you Lydia!). We both grabbed what we needed from Safeway and went our separate ways.
So yeah. This store lost me as a customer and I will not ever be shopping there again. As much as it pains me to say it, I'll be much more inclined to shop at Safeway knowing that they have my back if I need them.
SO yeah, screw you, "Arguello Super Market"....
Read moreOne of my favorite things about this delightful neighborhood market is how you can always expect the incredible smell of roasting turkey that fills the air, to bombard the senses as you walk through the front doors. This convenient little market is locally famous for their freshly roasted turkey sandwiches, made to order on the spot.
You can expect all the basic items that fill every kitchen cabinet here, and a dash extra. Specialty items tempt you around every corner. Some items are a tad more expensive than what you'd find at your local supermarket, but it's worth the convenience of avoiding the extra time and effort to go out of your way for the same thing.
I enjoy walking down the street toward the market, listening to rain drops pelt the umbrella that protects me from getting soaked during a storm, only to walk through the doors and experience the reminiscent smell of my favorite holiday, Thanksgiving. I buy a cup of coffee, a croissant and sit at the window watching the storm and other locals pass.

Read moreUnfriendly staff. I was interrupted while shopping by a man who worked there and asked if my dog was tied up outside. I said yes. He said can you move him, dogs pull things and no one pays for it, I put a sign up and I don't want dogs there. Okay, where would you like me to put him? Over there (he points to exactly where my dog is tied up). That's where my dog is tied up, where would you like me to put him? I don't know, not there, over there, anywhere (again pointing to where my dog is already tied up). Alrighty I'm done here and left.
My dog is a 10-yr old therapy dog with 3 legs who was patiently laying down waiting for me outside, he posed no problem and I've never had anyone bother me about him in this way. Please do a better job of communicating with your customers and create a designated dog area outside and clearly communicate that as the solution if you are finding it's such a problem and don't make it the customer's problem, very unpleasant and frustrating interaction, I'll be avoiding...
