Turns out this place is bicycle-friendly but not people friendly. I moved to the neighborhood almost two months ago. Instead of making coffee at home, I like to get a cup of coffee from either this place or Cinderella Cafe 3-4 days a week. I like these kinds of cafes, small businesses, and supporting them. Today, I came here for breakfast because I worked six days this week, and I thought I deserved a proper breakfast at a lovely place.
I ordered Eggs Benedict, and it took some time for the server to understand me, which I totally get. I know it can be challenging because there are thousands of different accents out there. What I can’t understand are the reactions she showed me, saying “what, huh?”
When she brought my food to the table, she literally threw the plate onto the table. If you think I’m lying, please check the cameras; it happened between 8:00 am and 8:20 am. What the heck did I do to deserve this service? I was going to ask her if they had free refills, but I didn’t even mention that. There was another table with a couple and a kid, and I saw how she served them—she wasn’t rude to them at all. Why me??
I’ve been wondering if I did something wrong or if there was a miscommunication that caused her behavior, or if that’s just how she is. I even tipped 20% before I saw her attitude. I worked in restaurants for six years, so I know how annoying some customers can be. That’s why I always treat servers with utmost respect. However, if you’re not happy or overwhelmed, I am not the person you should take it out on.
I’m not coming back, obviously. I know it’s not really going to hurt the business since I only get coffee twice a week, but it’s a shame that such a beautiful place has staff who are incapable of reflecting...
Read moreAfter a visit to the De Young Museum in Golden Gate Park we were seeking a casual lunch spot. We drove the short distance to Velo Rouge Care close by, just a block off Fulton Street (on McCallister Street). We entered the small-ish shop and read the menu (on the wall). There are painting and pictures of bicycles throughout the cafe. - other patrons were there enjoying a hot beverage or a bite to eat.
My wife ordered the Eggs Benedict - traditional but with Acadaco, served with house potatoes (or a green salad). I went with the Coppi Turkey Sandwich. In a short period of time the server brought the food to us as we sat on a bar facing the street. My sandwich was tasty - Turkey with Jack Cheese, Cranberry Sauce and Spinach. It was served with a substantial side salad (which was enough for a meal, honestly). Both of us enjoyed our meal and said we would definitely return here. Prices were reasonable for The City and its location is close enough to Golden Gate Park. We did find parking just across from the Cafe on McCallister. They’re open for breakfast and lunch only (closing...
Read moreSuper friendly and efficient little cafe. Reminded me of the little cafes in West Village I came to love. Super fast service, generous portions and fresh ingredients. The McAllister breakfast/sandwich??? came with perfectly cooked potatoes (crispy outside, soft inside), sauteed onions and mushrooms that were melt in your mouth yummy without being mush. The spinach was sauteed just enough to be spinach al dente, which I find challenging in my own kitchen. Fresh feta and not-to-crunchy, not-chewy bacon made the perfect compliment to the eggs atop muffin. The ingredients blended wonderfully and all kept their individual flavors. The portion size for price was much more than I've experienced in the area. And I'm not sure what espresso beans they use but the latte was perfect, in my own togo cup. Plenty of outside seating for a cafe this size and did I mention the cute little doggy friendly water bowl and impromptu tying post outside. Today I'm only a tourist but this would be my go to recommendation for breakfast to my friends visiting Inner/Outer Richmond, San Francisco or...
