I'm hesitant to write a glowing review of this place because I'm afraid that it'll get harder to book appointments but Iyara deserves a good word :) They offers traditional Thai massage (including a warm herbal compress style) as well as foot reflexology. A fan of traditional Swedish massage therapy, I was always a little nervous to try a Thai-style massage but Iyara has totally got me hooked.
The space is relatively new (opened March 2012) with Thai window displays and a view right into the waiting area - basically, the opposite of all the shady "massage" parlors in the city. Warm orange walls with golden murals, dark hardwood floors, and lowered lighting makes it a very peaceful inside. I really like that they have separate therapy rooms (four walls and a door!) that provide way more privacy than the curtain-separated rooms at most other Thai massage places. All of the therapists I've had have been good: they know what they're doing and I've never had any trouble communicating with them
Hours are generous and appointments are plentiful - big plus that you can make appointments online! Prices are excellent (especially when compared to traditional Swedish massages.)
I was a regular at La Biang and Anjalee on Polk Street when I used to live in Russian Hill. I missed them when I moved to the Inner Richmond earlier this year but was thrilled to have Iyara open in the neighborhood. Now I like Iyara even more than...
Read moreIyara (Haight) used to be my "go to" place, with great staff, pricing and quality of the traditional Thai massage on the mat. Sad to say all or most of that has now changed.
They've added the usual tables in addition to the traditional Thai mats, and last couple of times they insisted on using the tables (why come here if you could get that at any other place). Secondly, prices have skyrocketed e.g. $175+tip for a 90 min massage. For this much money, I'd expect much more e.g. steam room, or sauna, and really really incredible massage! (And the menu with prices on Google maps is wrong i.e. $100 for 90 mins, so don't be misled).
The massage itself wasn't bad, but it was just ok. Not like the ones I've had before with excellent staff (Anita or Ploy - they've since retired). Too light a pressure, partly my lack of communication, but otherwise not being able to find my knots... and the table, not the mat, did not make for a decent Thai massage experience. And the sticker shock of paying nearly double of what you thought you owed.
While this place is still better than the average, unfortunately, its not for me anymore. I will have to say, I do Not recommend this place anymore. Thank you for these past years Iyara- please bring...
Read moreI came down to Iyara Thai Massage for Swedish session today after a long day at work and afterwork run. I was normally having massage twice a week when I was back home in my country. I had such a great time. Pat was great! She was very calm and I felt so relaxed during the massage and after. I also fell asleep because it was so relaxing. Very highly recommended for the Swedish session with Pat! The room is so comfy and warm. I love it! The place is super clean and beautiful. The massage required the clothes to be off but I did not feel uncomfortable at all. It wasn't hard to find parking as well. I got parking spot in front of the massage place, so convenient! The room temperature is perfect. The place is easy to find. It is located on Geary street between 7th and 8th Avenue. I will come back for more :)) Thank you so much for such a great experience making my day after work run so much relaxing and wonderful! I highly recommended Pat with Swedish Session and this place if you are looking for Thai and Swedish massage with very professional masseuse! You...
