Short Story — Local services in San Francisco

I am a skeptic of stylists and boxes. I am also a very challenging person to style as I am very particular about what I like. When I signed up for Short Story it was on a whim, my weight had changed and I needed to flesh out my closet a bit. I did not have high expectations of the process or that they would be able to find clothes I liked; I was prepared to be disappointed and cancel after the initial box. But when the box came I was BLOWN AWAY ... my stylist is absolutely amazing. Maybe it is stylist specific but the stylist that I work with is AMAZING!!!! Her attention to detail and reading/incorporating the feedback that I provide is second to none. Almost every piece that they send is something that I would wear and I didn't expect that AT ALL. And most of the "outside the box" selections are something I wouldn't have thought to buy for myself but turn out to be flattering and could easily be me. I love the personal notes that I get in the style booklet that is included in every box, I love how my stylist remembers past pieces that I purchased and references how what is in the current box can be incorporated with the pieces that I previously purchased. I am short so it takes effort and sometimes multiple stores to find stuff I like that fits and I often have to have items altered. I will say that hasn't been the case with the Short Story boxes. I had initially only planned on getting one box and seeing how it went but I have found myself multiple boxes later still really impressed with the quality of the items, fit of the items, the customer service of the company and my stylist who is absolutely fantastic. Horrific Experience with Short Story

I gave Short Story three chances, despite receiving poorly curated and stylistically unsatisfactory boxes. The "sylists" are nothing of the sort and your profile/item requests are moot, ignored. After the third disappointing experience, I returned all but one item, paid for that item, and canceled my subscription.

However, things took a sharp turn for the worse. After canceling, they charged me $10 without explanation. After I demanded a refund, they removed the charge. But then, they tried to charge me nearly $300 for items I had already returned within the required timeframe—a blatant and unacceptable act.

When I reached out multiple times to address this, they ignored my concerns and continued to attempt these unauthorized charges. I also demanded they remove my personal information and stop contacting me, but they refused. Shockingly, after all this, they sent me another package despite my cancellation and warnings to cease all activity.

Their actions are theft, plain and simple. I will not handle this unauthorized package in any way so they need to have it returned to them on their own. This company’s disregard for basic ethics is appalling. A quick look at the reviews confirms I’m not alone—there’s a pattern of dishonest and unprofessional behavior here.

I filed a BBB complaint, where they have an F rating! as well as one with the Chamber of Commerce. I will continue to file these complaints with other authorities.

Do not waste your time or money on Short Story. The negative reviews are entirely accurate, and I regret ever giving them...
