We rode the ferry from San Juan to Catania at 1700 on 19 April. When we tried to ride back at 1830 we were told the ferry was shut down because of the weather.
I am a retired U. S. Navy captain who commanded 9,000 and 10,000 ton ships. I have a coast guard license and was captain in a casino ship and cruise ships for a popular U.S. cruise line.
I understand it is the captain’s responsibility to not sail when it is dangerous. It was not rough. There were absolutely on white caps in the bay. Visibility was fine.
We had to Uber back to San Juan. We subsequently found out the ferry operator, Hornblower Marine is supposed to provide ground transportation back when the ferry does not sail. The employee at the terminal never told us that. She rudely just said we could not ride the ferry because it shut down for weather.
Who in the Puerto Rican government or Coast Guard will look into this?
Highly recommend not sailing...
Read moreThe “address” on the website is not a true address. It pinpoints the peer. Because of this, you cannot put it in the Uber app and get to a real address. It took us a while to find another location close to the true address to put in the Uber app. Because of this we arrived at the terminal at 12:14pm and we were not allowed to board the ferry that left at 12:15pm even though it was still docked. If you are taking an Uber put in the polo Ralph Lauren Factory store address (it is across the street)
THEN- trying to go back the bus pulled up and claimed to have a flat tire and left then NEVER came back. We had to wait over an hour at the bus stop until the next bus was scheduled. INSANE. Do yourself a favor and Uber to Bacardi. This service...
Read moreIf you want to go to Casa Bacardi for a tour we would highly recommend taking the Cataño ferry from the pier at Old San Juan’s waterfront. The ferry is very inexpensive compared to any other way to get to Bacardi. FYI if you’re 70 it’s .50 round trip and if 72 free. The ferry runs on time is clean and you get a 15 minute boat ride to look back at Old San Juan harbor and skyline. When you get to Cantano take an Uber to Casa Bacardi cost about $6.00. FYI we were told by a couple who took an Uber from Ild San Juan to Bacardi it cost them $56.00! The ferry + Uber at Catano is...
