Puerto Rican Art & Crafts — Attraction in San Juan

One of the employees was incredibly rude and acted like it was a huge hardship to take a pair of earrings out of a display case. She even said, “well, what are you going to do with them”, the moment they were out of the display case and in my hands. I felt like she had something against tourists and can’t understand why she would even work at A store in the heart of a tourist attraction. I tried speaking Spanish and then spoke English, but nothing stopped her rudeness. Later on, someone in my group went to complain to the manager because she just cannot get it out of her head how rude the employee had been to me. The employee rolled her eyes and made faces the entire time. I wish they had to wear their name so I could share and others could avoid her. A friend who grew up in old San Juan recommended this place, and we go here every time we visit. Almost everything in the store is made in Puerto Rico and most of the items in the store are made by local artists and crafters. They have a lot of unique items that go far beyond the typical tourist shop items. You can get t-shirts that say Puerto Rico on them, but that isn't the majority of the stock. This shop sells tons of local art of different types and in all price ranges. They also sell local alcohol, food items, jewelery and accessories, among other things. Every time I visit the island I run out of time to get souvenirs. I like them to be authentic and well-made and until recently, I had to brave the crowds at Las Fiestas de San Sebastian for my chance to get real pieces of artesanía. Until I discovered this jewel of a store that has the curated work of island artisans in every price range. From keychain trinkets you can pass out to your co-workers to hand-carved native birds to jewelry and t-shirts, they are truly a one-stop shop.
