Kim & Co Salon & Day Spa — Local services in San Luis Obispo

I recently got married on 10/10/20 and I decided to change my wedding due to COVID. Kim was able to accommodate my change and we planned for my mother and I to get hair and make-up done at Kim's salon. I needed a trim and my mom needed a root touch up prior to the wedding so we decided to contact Kim and she was able to schedule us with Vanessa on the 8th which was really nice of her to do last minute! Vanessa's blow out was unfortunately disappointing and should have been a warning sign for the wedding day since she was going to be doing my mom's hair. She had the heat setting on low for the blow dryer and straightener which didn't properly style our hair. I should have just blow dried my hair myself and I would have gotten the same result if not better.

Kim had planned for me to come at 11:30am on the wedding day and promised that would be enough time for me to leave at 2pm. I had extensions and wanted my hair half up. She was unfortunately 25 minutes late because she was doing a new style on a customer. I wish she had scheduled the customer earlier knowing she had to be on time for a wedding. I had to be back at my house at 2:30pm so that I could catch a shuttle at 2:45pm to go to the venue. We didn't leave her salon until 2:30pm which caused me to miss my shuttle and made me EXTREMELY stressed out. I almost had a panic attack. While I was stressing out she had the audacity to ask me to take pictures of my hair and makeup as my mom was paying for the services and her and the staff were telling me " A wedding can't start without the bride!" as if that would make me feel better.

Vanessa was doing my mom's hair and all my mom wanted was a blow out and parts of her hair pinned back. She has short hair, below her neck and needs her ends curled inward. My mom does have a lot of hair but Vanessa was not able to do my mom's hair appropriately. She was taking big chunks of hair at a time and straightening instead of dividing it into smaller parts. We could tell she was very inexperienced. We made sure to tell her to put the heat setting on high but that still didn't help. Kim had given Vanessa a tip on what to do to try to get the ends to curl inward and Vanessa's response was " Oh I've never done that before, if you want to try it you can!" and proceeded to going home. Meanwhile, Kim was doing my hair and makeup and was already late and obviously didn't have time to help.

I'm not sure of the name of the lady that did my mom's make up (her booth was to the left of Kim) but she made me very upset. Make up was supposed to include false lashes and when my mom mentioned it to her she said my mom didn't need them. This is a lie because my mom has very short lashes that don't curl well. This lady made my mom curl her own lashes and then only applied mascara. She also asked my mom if she brought her own lipstick and told her she could buy some if she wanted any to be used on her. (this was strange because Kim had applied liner and gloss on me and didn't make me purchase any.) When my mom came to show me her makeup it was beautiful but I noticed she didn't have lashes on. I asked about it and her make up artist replied with, " It's too late" and I asked why? And she said "I don't have time." So Kim had to put my moms fake eye lashes on after being late for me and making me miss my shuttle. I felt like my mom and I were not important to the staff at Kim and Co salon and their other customers were prioritized. Kim was 25 minutes late for me but the lady doing my mom's makeup couldn't be 2 minutes late for her next customer??

Even though Vanessa did a horrible job my mom still tipped her 20% in cash before she left because she has a big heart and feels bad for everyone. At the end the lady at the front desk automatically charged my mom 20% for all of the services so Vanessa got tipped 2 times. I am extremely upset and do not recommend using Kim's staff for your bridal hair. Overall Kim was very nice and my hair and make up came out pretty. I would only hire Kim going forward and stay away from the rest...

My first experience at Kim and Co. was beyond lovely, the atmosphere, the entire staff and Kim herself were kind, compassionate and professional. I was recently in the hospital and due to a current health issue and I can’t get my back wet to shower or wash my hair properly.

Kim herself thoroughly cleansed my scalp and double shampooed me, all the while letting me kvetch about my health issues. The way my hair felt and looked after getting cleansed was night and day, and furthermore she refused to let me pay! I will absolutely be going back as soon as I’m able for a full cut and styling.

They have a parking lot, adorable exterior, and that delicious salon smell when you come in the door. I perused their selection of wonderful products in the front, ranging from skincare to hair products and they even had a small section for locally made knitwear and accessories.

The staff is super helpful and the vibe was delightful. You will not regret visiting this salon, my mom regularly sees Vanessa for her haircuts and her hair is always looking so cute for her face shape and easy to style at home. I started going to Kim for my hair needs the summer before my wedding. She is AMAZING. I have never had such a good cut in my life. I have very thick straight hair but she was able to make it look wonderful with out a lot of styling after I left. She put beautiful highlights in it for me too and I always got exactly what I asked for. This is not a hair artist that takes liberties with your hair, you get what you ask for the first time! All of the staff is very friendly and accommodating as well.

She did my hair and make-up for my wedding and I would not have had it any other way. I've gotta say I think I looked pretty awesome!

One of the girls did my nails for my wedding as well, I had no idea what she did was even possible! I had no idea they could take straight glitter and do just the tips of my nails! I even got to pick three different glitters to mix together and she made them "fade" the way I wanted them to.

Two of my bridesmaids had they're hair done for the wedding by two other stylists and they were very happy with the results as well.
