Decided to come here on a Sunday with my girlfriend last weekend after noticing the awesome reviews and the french toast specialty. The restaurant itself is cute and has a great atmosphere and we managed to snag a seat relatively quickly thanks to a very helpful waiter on a busy Sunday. Honestly was stoked at that point and excited to try the food.
My girlfriend ordered the eggs benedict and I ordered sourdough toast and eggs with a side of hash browns and we also got an order of their french toast to split and try out. This is where issues began to arise. The french toast is served with whip cream and toasted nuts on top, which we politely asked to be placed on the side (for reference, its because neither of us like nuts, instead preferring a heaping amount of only syrup, not because of a food allergy). We'll return to this point in a moment. That finished up our order and the waiter was great and attentive.
It was clearly busy and at one point the waiter mentioned that they had accidentally put nuts on my french toast and were remaking the dish. No worries at that point, I appreciated the message and didn't mind the extra time, at that point about 30 minutes since we had ordered. About ten minutes later we received our food, minus the side of sourdough toast which was still on its way. We got to eating, Girlfriend said the eggs benedict was pretty good, and I enjoyed the spiced hash browns.
I began eating the french toast (which came on a practical bed of syrup on the plate) when I noticed that there were still small amounts of nuts left over in the syrup under some of the pieces. I briefly brought it up to the server, showing him the nuts. At this point he says to me, "I told them not to do that..." in an earnest jest of understanding and that he understands if I wanted it removed from the bill etc. WOAH. Please correct me if my thinking is wrong, but that leads me to believe that no effort was made to remake my order and instead they what...attempted to scoop all the nuts off and re-serve it?! I really don't mind a small amount of nuts, but if I were someone who was specifically ALLERGIC to nuts this is VERY problematic. No way this should EVER slide in a serious kitchen environment even when its a stressful Sunday. Its just a health risk. Honestly just put me in a bad mood, and at this point I still don't have my toast. Just a sour experience that I'm sure is an isolated incident but that kind of corner cutting in the kitchen doesn't speak highly. The service itself wasn't bad and I didn't mind paying for my meal but wow, haven't had something like that at any eating experience in a long time and it definitely prompted...
Read moreAuthentic, fun environment. Been there twice in the last month. First time for dinner. We enjoyed what we ate. I had a filet mignon medallion dish. It was tasty. The jambalaya was very good. We liked the corn bread they serve still in the cast iron pan. Today we went for lunch. My husband had a breakfast omlet. They offered breafast or lunch items, not dinner till 5. I had the seafood gumbo. If you dont mind eating any kind of fish, its a huge bowl to devour. I myself love fish but was a bit disappointed. In that huge bowl I was lucky to get 2 shrimp and 1 small crab claw. There were lots of chunks of a white fish and small bits of something that was extremely fishy tasting. There looked also to be octopus legs/tenticles too. So again, if your good with super fishey flavors and any kind of fish, then you will enjoy this dish. I myself could have been satisfied with more shrimp, crab and maybe add some andouille sausage. The lunch menu also offeres salads and po-boy sandwichs etc. If you like cajun food and are looking for an authentic taste and environment, its...
Read moreThe food deserves 5 stars, but the service is what brought it down. We came here as a group of 5 on Saturday. We got there at 1:30 and placed our orders by 1:45. It took 25min for the food to come out. One of the orders came out wrong, she had asked for fries with her sandwich but got a salad. Which was fine... Until she found a hair. We had to get the waiters attention because at no point during our meal did he check on us or even offer to refill our water. The waiter just took her plate away without apologizing or anything. Instead of bring her sandwich back so she could eat it while waiting for her side, she had to wait an additional 8 minutes for it to come back out... The waiter cane back out and just set her plate down and left.... Still no apology or offer to refill the water At the very least... At this point we are there past the closing time... This is the best part... Our waiter comes out and says word for word, "Can you guys hurry up because we need to leave too." At this point I think we all had had enough. This was our first time here,...
