I've never surfed before and wanted to try. Couldn't have asked for a better experience. Me and a friend were members of a 6 person class. Started with some “ground school” training where we learned proper foot placement, stance, safety measures and pop-up techniques. They taught us several different pop-up techniques which was great because some felt more natural than others. Priscilla & Curtis made a point to work with each of us individually rather than taking a one size fits all approach. This all lasted about 30-45 mins.
Then we made our way to the water where, again, Priscilla & Curtis took time to help each of us individually. They would tell us where to be in the water, when to get on the board, when to start paddling, and even give us a helpful push in the right direction. This hands-on guidance was incredibly helpful in learning. When they were helping the other students, I had the freedom to practice what I was learning, so I never felt like I was just waiting for my turn. I even managed to stand up a few times, which was more than I hoped for.
The education was great, but Priscilla & Curtis made the entire experience one to remember. They are friendly, funny, encouraging, and really helpful. Would most definitely do this again and highly recommend to anyone looking to...
Read moreWe (my partner and I) had a great experience! Our teachers- Priscilla and Chris- were excellent. Priscilla taught us several different pop-up techniques and we did some guided practice before heading out to the water. Chris and Priscilla helped each person individually in the water, giving us tips about timing and our own body mechanics to help us improve our form and stability. I was pretty terrible at it, but the experience of just being in the water and feeling yourself riding the waves was really great.
The foam boards the school uses were great for us - they floated well (even when my form was bad) and didn't hurt too badly when I tumbled from the board. I felt really safe practicing with the instructors there to help. Priscilla and Chris also monitored wave conditions, so we could move to calmer areas when we needed to. They were both really good natured and encouraging, but also firm enough to communicate how important fundamentals were to safety.
If you've ever thought about trying surfing, but felt too nervous- just do it. You'll have so much fun, regardless of how...

It was my first time surfing and Priscilla did an amazing job teaching us. We met at 9am at the parking lot where we were geared up into our wetsuit and got our boards. There is a restroom nearby so use the restroom before just in case.
We headed to the beach were we learned the basics on how to handle the board, position yourself on the board, pop up, paddle, etc.
We then went into the water. Priscilla guided us the whole time. She would watch what we did wrong and give us tips on how to improve. Towards the end, we were able to get a hang of how to balance and prop up. It was exciting and fun to be able to stand and ride the wave.
Don't forget to bring your towel!
Overall, it was an amazing experience and I learned a lot. I am definitely recommending my friends to learn through Priscilla through Malibu Longboards Surf...
