Fun Surf LA made my son’s bday gift surprise extra memorable and not just because of the incredible Santa Monica waves and colorful backdrop of the pier…what made this extra special was the staff Daria and Johnathan!
First, Daria helped me book my reservation with ease and helped me choose the best location based on my needs. Calling and emailing were both great options to reach her as she responded quickly or called back if the first call was missed! Now that’s my kind of service. The best part was when I made it to the location I kind of got turned around because I’m not from the area, but Daria stayed on the phone with me and navigated me the whole way down to the beach until I saw the iconic blue surf bus! Yay!
Now for Johnathan!! Who knew kind souls like him could just appear out of thin air! He is more than a great surf instructor he truly is worldly man that has great adventures to share about LA and his travels! Fun!
That said his lesson was on point! He took great time with me and my son to figure out what made most sense for us and how we felt most comfortable on the board. Most importantly he made sure to thoroughly go over all the safety protocols. Once in the water we had a blast!! No matter how many times we fell off he showed great encouragement and new tips based on how we fell of “ tap into your inner 5 years old” “Trust yourself!” “Put your power into it your strong”
Before I knew it my son was catching waves and I had finally got up and lasted long enough to make it back to the shore! Yahoo!
This was better than any water park! You’re going get flipped, flipped and dunked! It’s all so much fun and most importantly I felt safe.
Prepare for the funniest work out of your life.
One more special note, I appreciated how Johnathan watched over kiddos from a distance making sure they weren’t drifting even though they weren’t his students…he just genuinely cares for peoples safety and that was a pretty awesome thing to witness which made me feel calmer as the waves came gushing towards me.
My son gives this place a thumbs up and so do...

A few days later, we rented a wetsuit and surfboard from FunSurfLA so that Zachary could get some practice on his own.
And finally, on the last day of our week-long stay near Venice Beach, we got a second 2-hour lesson. Valentine, from Argentina, was the instructor and he did a great job of giving Zachary tips and encouragement.
It was exciting for Zachary to actually surf and it was exciting for me to see him getting up on the board several times and experiencing the excitement of actually having the water pushing him to shore... and to the sandy beach.
As I was taking a video of Zachary on his last "ride," it was cool to see Valentine running through the water.... getting to Zachary to give him a High-Five while he was still on the board... still coming in to where I was watching.
The instructors really know how to get their students excited about the adventure. If I was 50 years younger, I would want to spend a week with these instructors at FunSurfLA to experience something that I only know about from the Beach Boys "Catch a Wave and You're Sitting on Top of the World!"
They definitely gave my nephew an experience he will...
Read moreMy friends and I recently bought a groupon for fun surf LA for surfing lessons. I had been in contact with the company about reservations. I called multiple times and distinctly remember talking to a lady with an accent. As well have been emailing, Stephen about reservations. Day prior to reservations that were made, I emailed and called to make sure they were set for my friends and I. I didn’t get a response so we still drove down to Venice beach. Upon arrival to address that was on groupon there was about 6 people already there in wet suits. The set up they had was a blue van with surfboards and wet suits, I approached the lady helping out the people already getting in wet suits about a 10 am reservation with Fun Surf LA groupons. The lady had the same distinct accent from the lady I spoke with on the phone. The lady then told me that they were not Fun Surf LA and that they did not do groupons. I find this funny because, the license plates on the van said Fun Surf and she said they were called “surfing with Stephen”. When we got back to the car I got an email from Stephen saying the “class tomorrow is canceled due to the surf conditions”, which I find even funnier because they had 6 people in wet suits getting ready to go out in the ocean. This is a very unprofessional business. I am VERY VERY VERY livid. DON'T...
