Liu Family Dental Care — Local services in Santa Rosa

I originally came to this office expecting to see Dr. Philips, who was highly recommended. This was my experience.

I cannot even begin to explain how great Lui Family Dental care is. I put off dental work for years out of fear and anxiety. Other than cleanings and emergencies I ignored all the dental needs I had, whether necessary or cosmetic. I needed several long appointments. Not only did the extremely friendly staff (Roxanne and Nancy) accommodate all my needs, but the dental assistants were my literal support system. Assuring me and comforting me through any anxious moments and helping me communicate any concerns I had. That said I must get to the most important part of this wonderful practice, Dr. Lui. He was the most gentle, intelligent, well mannered, communicative, re-assuring, and competent dentist, I have ever met! He also has good humor which puts one at ease. I went in fully prepared to have an anxiety attack in the dental chair. A dozen appointments later I can share that not only did I NEVER have even one anxiety attack but I had to at times be woken up because I was so relaxed my mouth would start to close! Sure there were some difficult procedures I had to breathe through, but Dr. Lui always numbed me up good and made me as comfortable as possible. If I even squinted minimally, either he or the dental assistant(shout out to Rochelle and Laura) noticed immediately. The practice is also very considerate and transparent about cost, your priority needs and Dr. Lui looks far ahead with you as to what you may need down the road or anything he feels you should know is not necessary. That is to say there were times I brought things up thinking I needed it and he explained it was an unnecessary cost because with my dental outlook it would be redundant and a waste of my money. I hope that makes sense. This happened a few times, as on top of needed dental work, I was also addressing cosmetic concerns. Which he was also a master at. I will add photos in the near future.

Dental work is dental work and there’s no way around that, but it makes all the difference to go somewhere you can feel comfortable, respected and satisfied with the end result. I HIGHLY recommend Dr. LUI and staff!! I completely understand why Dr. Philips, entrusted his practice into Dr. Lui’s hands. November, 2024

My husband, Marty, and I were patients of Dr. Phillips for more than twenty years. Recently, Dr. Phillips retired. With just a tiny bit of apprehension (no one really likes change), I went in for my regularly scheduled cleaning in November 2024 (Janeen is THE Best), and had the opportunity to meet Dr. Liu. I am delighted! There is a lightness and joy in the office. I was so happy to see that Dr. Liu is personable, professional, and warm. Go visit them! Nancy and Roxanne will make you feel 'at home' comfortable. The dental care you will recelve is absolutely the best. They really are a world class team. Welcome, and thank you, Dr Liu!

December 11, 2025. This is an addendum to my first review. Today, December 11, 2024, I had an appointment with Dr. Liu to have a crown procedure. I was actually looking forward to it. I knew it would give me a valuable observation of Dr. Liu's work. I am delighted, and I may have just told EVERYONE in the office that as I left. Dr. Liu is an artist with a needle! No one likes those injections, and I am no different. The injection was absolutely pain free. Before the procedure, Dr. Liu reviewed in detail what he was going to do, and asked if I had any questions or concerns. He was gentie, asking every so often how I was doing. Well, I was doing GREATI! He and Laura took time to explain where we were in the procedure, what was coming next, and what I could expect. The entire experience simply could not have been any better. Dr. Liu is young, likely in this mid-thirties. I am in my mid-70's. He may well be my last dentist, and that thought makes me very happy. Again, thank you, Laura. I recently moved to the Santa Rosa area and was looking for a new dentist where my family and friends can go. I will start off by saying that most people at this office are very nice and caring. (Hygienist, Dr, & team in the back)

Integrity of the billing/front desk team is where this office falls short.

Unfortunately they will not tell you how much your bill will be or let you pay at the office…odd right? 3 weeks later my wife and I get a bill for thousands of dollars for X-rays and cleanings. Shame on us for not asking for the pricing prior to allowing them to do their work.

6 months later we thought we learned our lesson and both go in for a scheduled cleaning. My wife goes in and verifies with the front desk which she is told that “yes your insurance is covered and I have confirmed” she assured her it would be a few dollars at most. 3 weeks later we get an email with a $170 bill. When we call the office they deny ever saying this claiming there’s only 2 people at the front desk and they would never say such a thing.

It’s not necessarily the $3k bill(for 2 people) or the $170 bill (although this is the most I’ve ever paid at any dentist having the same insurance), it’s how they responded to us and told us not to worry about the money and it won’t be “that much” and then denied they ever said it that is the issue here. We thought this was our new go to dentist and actually recommended it to various people which we have shared our experiences with.

With all this being said, feel free to give them a visit just beware of their sneaky...
