TLDR: Female-led, amazing coaches, intelligent and safe programming, wonderful community vibes, generous trial plans. 5/5, would recommend to anyone, regardless of skill/fitness level and or familiarity with Crossfit.
Full review: I have been a member at TPH for over a year now (joined Jan 2021,) and I still frequently get emotional regarding what an impact this gym and its coaches have had on my well-being. I cannot say enough or too many good things about Twenty Pound Hammer. I have a history of various eating disorders, body dysmorphia, and exercise addiction, so I was weary of starting Crossfit, given its generic reputation for being anywhere from culty and overly intense to downright unsafe. TPH IS NONE OF THOSE THINGS. Twenty Pound Hammer has allowed me to feel strong and excited about getting stronger. I come from a 20+ year background in dance and have a group fitness certification myself, so my standards and expectations for coaches/instructors is high. The coaches at TPH exceed them daily. They are so so smart, so safe, so kind, and so in tune with the people in the room at any given time. They always lead the group through a thorough and relevant warm up, welcome questions, offer lots of scaling options, share helpful tips and tricks, and in general are just amazing. I firmly believe this is the best Crossfit gym in Seattle. Give the gym a try for a week or a month; they have trial plans to see if TPH is a good fit for you!    Read moreI highly recommend a visit to CrossFit Twenty Pound Hammer. The coaches are friendly, knowledgable, experienced, and encouraging. They emphasize safety through proper technique and provide an individualized experience even in a group class setting.
Members range in ability/CF experience from brand new to CrossFit, including those who may be finding their way into (or back into) a workout routine, to seasoned competition-level athletes who make muscle ups look easy and a barbell stacked with 45# plates look light. (...I am not one of the latter.) Modifications or scaling options for movements are always provided, ensuring anyone can participate and have a great workout, regardless of experience or fitness level.
One of the aspects people value most about CrossFit is the community it fosters, and "the Hammer" is no exception. Members' kids and dogs are welcome and frequent spectators; events include summer BBQs, winter ski trips, and intra-gym partner competitions; and the first Saturday of every month is "Bring a Friend" (for free!) day.
Drop-in visitors are encouraged, and many classes begin with a fun icebreaker during warm up to get to know guests and new members. As for facilities, the space is clean and open, with high ceilings, a dedicated lifting area, and all your standard CrossFit equipment. Parking is free and plentiful....
Read moreI've been attending this gym for almost a year, and it's been an amazing experience! All of the coaches are extremely welcoming, friendly and knowledgeable. If you are like me and found yourself wandering around the gym weight room and not pushing yourself in your workouts, I highly recommend you try a class at Twenty Pound Hammer. It's been nothing but rewarding for me physically and emotionally. I would also add: don't to be intimidated. Everyone is always learning something new and in different places with their skills and fitness level. The coaches do a great job at meeting you at your skill level by scaling workouts so they're doable, while also teaching you new things and pushing you to do your best. In short, it's a wonderful community and I highly...
