The short version: Burgers are top ten in Seattle, amazing drink variety and relaxed atmosphere. TONS OF PARKING!!!
Food: I ordered (this time) The Big Cheese, a side of fries and a fountain drink. What jumped out at me is that the patties actually are shaped like patties, instead of the too-thick spheres of meat that some places put in their "designer" burgers. All the ingredients in the burger work together to make it one of the better burgers around. You can really taste the onions without feeling like you're being punched in the face by a giant onion. The lettuce adds variety in consistency without feeling like you're biting into a romaine heart. Not sure what goes into making their Giddy Up sauce but it pairs incredibly well with the ensemble. They also have one of the million-in-one soda fountains so you are almost certain to get the drink you want. When I finished my burger, I was just a little sad there wasn't more to eat and then I remembered about my fries! Just like the burger, they were cooked incredibly well. They tasted very fresh and actually had crispiness to them. I have had the sweet potato fries here before and I remember them being quite good as well. Setting: Atmosphere is quite pleasant. There is the main seating area inside and a warehouse type area connected that doubles the seating area and on top of that, they have outside seating for when the weather is nice. I little unsure about the music (hip hop) that was playing when I was in but you can chalk that up to me being old. Staff: Very friendly and attentive. Some places I feel like the staff is putting on their happy face and trying their best to make you feel taken care of. The staff here is more laid back and naturally friendly, which I think is infinitely better. I was a bit surprised by how fast my meal came out and yet didn't taste like it was just thrown together. Location: It is located in the no-mans land between Fremont and Ballard so parking is very plentiful and they even have their own lot in front of the building, which is reason enough to go there. Since this area is more sparse than other places in the city, it doesn't become a mad house. Very much a bonus in my book as it makes my lunch break more relaxing. Final thoughts: In my book, Giddy Up transcends a simple burger joint and firmly lands in the comfort food realm. Highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a good meal. A lot of times, it seems like restaurants come and go in Seattle, this is one of those places I hope doesn't go away soon, as it is now on my...
Read moreAny restaurant who steps up for their community, automatically gets a few stars from me, but the full throttle locally sourced delectable ingredients seal the deal. I will only eat meat out when I can find proteins which are "Happy Meats" and knowing of their community partnerships, we see the 'provenance' of the meat, which is deliciously cooked. They also serve the Impossible Burger any way you like it. They say they can accommodate dietary restrictions, and the fries are GF.
From their website "We are committed to bringing the best quality ingredients to enhance our community and build a more sustainable world by serving only grass-fed, hormone-free, locally sourced beef burgers with chicken, seafood, vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options."
We had hot sautéed greens,, gluten-free buns, we missed the salad bar. They offer lettuce wrap in lieu of a bun, "Giddy Up makes it easy for people with dietary restrictions to dine out and still have fun".
I qualify my reviews by saying that I will give 5 stars to a hole in the wall and 2 for white glove service. Good food and GOOD INGREDIENTS is what I care about. The luxurious aspects of fine dining are amazing, but so is a great place to bring the friends and family in to watch the game (we will gather at Giddy UP...
Read moreThe place is cool, the people are really nice, and they have a large selection of drinks, but the burger was pretty disappointing.
I ordered the Giddy Up burger with an extra patty (1/3 lb. each). $10 + $2.50 for the extra patty + tax brought the total to almost $14. The toppings were decent, but the bun was pretty sub-bar and compressed to be paper-thin almost immediately, the bottom of the burger was cold from the tray when it was served, but the biggest let-down was the meat - it was cooked well-done (wasn't given a choice), was stiff and rubbery, and didn't have much of any flavor. It even had some gristle in it. It was obvious that it was very low-quality meat.
Considering this, it was pretty terrible value. For example, you can go over to 8oz. Burger & Co and get a delicious artisan 1/2 lb. burger for $12 + tax that I would describe as world-class, or go over to Li'l Woody's and get a great 1/3 pound burger (same size as here) for $8 + tax.
Again, cool place, great people, lots of potential, but the food is the whole reason you go there in the first place, and it needs some serious...
