Like the name suggests, it is an Urban organization. If you are coming from village and need to learn the city speak and integrate yourself into the city, Urban league is the best place.
They have lots of facilities and one of them is a drop in center. It is a place to learn the social skills of the city and get yourself placed in the social hierarchy of the city. The instructors can come off as rude. That is the speak of city of US. If you were in a European city, then people will be polite no matter what, but in US people speak loud and in a rude manner no matter what, especially in the cities.
Now they will give you money after you complete education. Use that money wisely. As in for social integration and skills. Using that money for coffee at a cafe while all dressed up. Using that money to behave properly in a semi formal to formal setting is a best way to integrate yourself into the life of the city.
They recommend people get jobs with uplift. It is one of the best staffing companies in the US. Behave well with them and they will offer career opportunities, vocational training, and higher paying and very respectable jobs.
The urban league also doesn't stop you if you are getting job elsewhere. Choose wisely. Wisely in this case means where do you feel comfortable in the social hierarchy of the city.
The people of Urban league first ask you to respect them like they are your parents, then like parents give you opportunities to speak up and speak in an uply fashion. They are very helpful and highly skilled people.
Once you go through their programs and go through the process of spending great amount of time with them, you will become a person who is well integrated into the city of Seattle. They welcome people of all skin colors and they respect and treat them equally.
They demand things and actions from you. It is lucky to have someone demand things from you. Obviously, dont be very complicit or come off as rude. It is for you to learn the social skills needed to navigate the city without being taken advantage off or being harmed.
Good luck and have a nice journey getting integrated by the best...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreLeft a 5 star review the day after I got my apartment key in mid January 2023. The case manager who was working with went as far asking the apartment management if I could move in early from out of the shelter and that they would deliver a check the beginning of the next week. Found out two weeks after that after they said they were gonna pay deposit 1st month and last. Apartments even gave me two weeks free. But the case manager calls and says they wrote a check for $1300 but my deposit was around $450 and each months rent is $1350. Now 1 week into the next month I have a notice because urban league never gave them not one payment like they promised so now I owe just from move in $1900 + 1350 when march comes around. The money I had saved up I used to catch up on my phone bill and some debt thinking by time march 1st comes around Iāll have made the money back from work to start paying my rent. Canāt get a hold of the case manager anymore. The last time I heard from him was when he said he had a check for 1300 and I told him that I thought they were covering the move in cost which was around 1900 even sent him the screen shot of the online portal and everything. Never was contacted again by...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis organization really needs better workers who want to help people and actually have communication skills and are P-R-O-F-E-S-S-I-O-N-A-L....ill say it again, PROFESSIONAL! Lafleshe Broussard stopped communicating to phone calls/emails after she requested documents which we sent over. It's been 4 weeks still haven't heard back from her.....The receptionist who wouldn't give her name that was working on the morning of 9/9/22 shouldn't be people's first line of contact- period. She was rude, cut me off everytime I tried to explain who I was trying to reach, and again wouldn't give her name, just said "im the receptionist" š. Lastly- there's Crystal Barquet. Someone who chooses not to read emails to comprehend the situation, she just sends a generic response saying "we are out of funds, call 211". I understand that, got it! What I don't understand is why so rude? Why no response to emails after requesting documents? These girls at the seattle branch just seem unhappy and are downright rude and unprofessional. I would never recommend anyone here- even if you need assistance you don't deserve to be treated the way you're treated by...
