When I left, I thought "ok, this is kind of cute. Shorter than I wanted but it looks fine." I don't like conflict, so I told Quincy (stylist) I liked it and it was cute. Plus, hair grows. It was very Rebecca Bunch, season one, but I could try to make this work. So, me being the chronic over-tipper and apologetic ninny than I am, left ~35% tip, and went home on my merry, though highly self-conscious way. However, once I got home and was able to play with it, I progressively came to hate it. I saw Quincy, who has excellent reviews on here, but she and I just didn't jibe well. Very different personalities and my sense of humor is obviously very different from hers. She was nice enough but I did not leave thinking that I was totally coming back to her. Kind of got the feeling she didn't like me right off the bat. Now, several days later, I frequently think about how much of a mistake it was to chop off what was at least 6-8 inches into this disaster. I have thick, straight hair with an undercut that I'm growing out. We discussed a mid-length bob that would make it easier to blend the undercut in the future without another major chop and 70s-ish curtain bangs. A cut that I could pull into a low ponytail or do a half-up style and would be low-maintenance for me, someone with no hot tools at home and just a few little used hair products. I had several reference pictures but I think she may have just glanced at them, maybe (two were of previous cuts she had done and were on Instagram!). I ended up with a short "bob" (mullet? But not, like, cool) with layers in the back that are the same length as the undercut (roughly 3/4"). I certainly can't pull it up in any way, the bangs look like I cut them on my own, and when it dries, it puffs up into what can only be described as an awkwardly layered bowl cut. Vastly different than what we discussed and what I asked for. I look like I did in middle school. Which 18 years later still causes shame flashbacks. When the stylist keeps asking you if you like it and if it's ok (which whe did), the receptionist raises her eyebrows and pitch of her voice when she tells you it looks "cute" (which she did), your partner raises his eyebrows and confirms "well, hair grows" (which he did), and your work wife sees your face and says "we don't have to talk about it" (which she also did), you know it's not good. I paid far too much for what amounts to a Great Clips hot mess. Before leaving, I asked what kind of products would be good to style it and was vaguely told "oh, you know, maybe some salt spray." Salt spray has not saved this look and I will definitely...
Read moreHumiliating, insulting and traumatizing experience. I scheduled a haircut for 12:15 today with Fabiola. The streets around the Ballard salon were blocked and I had a hard time finding parking space. I found a space near the salon and waited patiently for two elderly people to pull out. I received a phone call from the receptionist at the salon at 12:06 saying that if I make it until 12:30 the stylist will still be able to see me. I arrived at 12:26 and the receptionist told she'll have to reschedule the appointment. When I confronted her that I'm within the time frame she became super aggressive and said that that that's the state regulations (suddenly changed in 1 min) and that the stylist makes the rules. I was frustrated and disappointed. I came from a far and was waiting a long time for the haircut and was just given misleading information by this person. Instead of apologizing or acknowleding my frustration she just became more and more aggressive and defensive, treating me like I was some criminal and asking me repeatedly to leave, saying that this might not be the right salon for me. I left the salon with tears running down my face. I have been a loyal costumer of Vain in it's various locations for over 2 years and had very positive experience until now. I'm shocked, sad and insulted. I've worked in different service jobs throughout my life and I know this situation could have been handled differently with dignity, humanity and compassion and without escalating into a this negative,...
Read moreI’ve been looking for a new stylist ever since I’ve grown my hair out past my shoulder - I felt drawn to VAIN.
Their receptionist was very friendly and informative when I called to book an appointment. I requested someone with 10+ years of experience and was super excited to get my hair cut.
My stylist didn’t take me until 25 minutes past my appointment. I didn’t have anywhere to be afterwards, so it wasn’t a big deal in the moment.
I told her I wasn’t looking for a new look, but wanted some density taken out and 1-2 inches removed. She did a great job with my cut and took her time! I was super pleased.
With her experience level, her prices were higher, and I believe I paid almost $150 with tip. I never mind paying for technique and skill, though!
Once I got home I realized she didn’t take much length off (a lot less than an inch to be honest), but found my hair to be more manageable which is what I needed. Now that it’s a few weeks past the appointment, I feel like I need another cut because we didn’t remove the 1-2 inches. That’s annoying given the cost of the service.
Given the high price, starting 25 min late, and not actually cutting that much hair, I won’t return. It was a bit too much for what I actually received. She was great, but someone at that experience level should hit...
