Situated just off the bustling thoroughfare of Ballard Avenue, Caffe Umbria stands as a testament to three generations of unwavering dedication to the art of coffee. This quaint establishment enchants patrons with its inviting ambiance and delectable offerings. Upon our early arrival, the staff initially exhibited a peculiar reluctance to admit us, leaving us perplexed. However, once inside, we were promptly served our exceptional Lavender Latte, a sublime sandwich, and a slice of tantalizing pumpkin squash bread. While basking in the aromatic delights, we noticed an unusual abundance of sunlight streaming through the windows, illuminating every table with an almost blinding brilliance. Despite this minor inconvenience, our conversation with the gracious staff shed light on the cafe’s rich history and their unwavering commitment to customer satisfaction. Caffe Umbria offers an exquisite selection of pastries, sandwiches, and cookies, catering to a diverse palette. Whether seeking a quick bite or a leisurely pastry break, this establishment will not disappoint. The ambiance is cozy and welcoming, inviting patrons to linger over their coffee and engage in meaningful conversations. Although the morning rush hour brought a surge of patrons, the staff remained composed and attentive, ensuring a seamless experience for all. It is evident that politeness and a genuine desire to provide exceptional service are deeply ingrained in the cafe’s culture. In conclusion, Caffe Umbria is an exceptional destination for coffee enthusiasts and those seeking a cozy retreat. Its delectable offerings, friendly staff, and charming atmosphere make it a true gem in the vibrant Ballard neighborhood. Highly recommended for its exquisite coffee, delectable pastries, and unwavering commitment to customer satisfaction.

Pretty good coffee. Pretty dang expensive. And pretty dang trashy. No reusable cups, everything served in single use plastic cups. No better way to give the middle finger to the environment than depositing bags and bags of single use plastic cups into the landfill. Please consider serving customers with reusable ceramic mugs and cups. Not only will it make for a classier establishment, you’ll actually help to show some love to Mother Nature.

Addendum: Thanks for your response! A few responses to your response:

  1. I did dine in and many others did too. Nobody I saw had the Italian porcelain you mentioned. Nor was I given the choice between dine in or take out. It seems, at least that day, the default was to serve coffee in take out plastic and paper cups unfortunately. It would be great if it were the opposite, that the default ought to be the porcelain, not the plastic.
  2. great! However many people unfortunately don’t adhere to the receptacle designations as you often see much trash in the recycle container and visa versa.

I think that it speaks to the depth of beautiful shops here in Ballard but I found this sophisticated cafe completely by accident while I was looking for something else. I originally mistook this cafe for Miro Tea, which is apparently next door, so I was originally curious as to why there are so many more coffee than tea options. Still, I ordered a chai tea here and greatly enjoyed my time in this classy, European space, filled with delicious brews and a decent breakfast menu. The cowboy sandwich that I had was not particularly special, but there are a wide variety of menu options that I presume are a little tastier. Above all, if you are a coffee connoisseur, you will be satisfied here, even if you are a bit of a snob: such is the sheer variety on the menu and the refined yet soothing elegance...
