I had a water hose break On the front of my engine. It sprayed I coolant all over the front of the engine on the driver's side. The Coolant went down through the timing cover and shorted out my crank position sensor and my cam position sensor. I brought them the parts to put in. And they put the parts in. When they called me, they said the car had a miss like the engine was running rough. I asked them, so did you look at it to see what was causing the misfire. They said no that they're to busy. I said well Doesn't my car matter? I got no answer. When I arrived to pick it up. They acted like my car was broken before I got there by that I mean like it had the misfire before I brought it in. And they were told that everything shorted out because of the water leak and didn't check to see if the coil was shorted. They treated me very poorly and acted like I did not have a brain. And I could have actually done this myself but they don't know that. I have a diagnostic tool. And I went home and put it on my vehicle. And it showed that number five cylinder was missfiring. That makes sense because right were the Coolant spewed everywhere Is also where the coils are under a plastic cover. So immediately I knew that the water had gone in through the plastic cover and shorted out the coil for cylinder number five. By the time I had done this on my were closed. It is appalling and Disgusting that any shop would treat you Or your vehicle like that. They basically said to me while it was broken before it got here. Because it has a lot of miles on it. They did not even try to see why it wasn't running right. They just put it outside said pay me and take it. It is going to cost me another two hundred dollars to fix this. And running your vehicle with a cylinder missing is very hard on the engine and could cause damage. And also when I first went in there yesterday. To talk with the owner Craig, he treated me like crap. Acting like a jerk. I should have turned around and had my car towed somewhere else then. But they did come recommended from a friend at the american Legion so I thought they would be ok. Boy did I find out they should be called dishonest engine. I can't believe someone would leave a car. Go out with a cylinder, not firing. That could cause damage to the engine. I almost forgot that they also did not tighten the clamps on the radiator hose. And it leaked all the way home. And I had to put in over a half of gallon of coolant. cylinder misfire? Driving with a misfiring cylinder is not safe under any condition. It can cause severe damage to your car's engine and thus most people advise not to drive with this...
Read moreBad experience! 2018 Ford Edge, engine light came on and it was rough on cold starts. I was referred to Honest Engine. Changed 4 spark plugs, and an ignition coil saying 3rd cylinder was misfiring. Charged $300. Next day, engine light came on and ran rough on early morning start. Took the car back in, they worked on it and called me that it was ready. He advised he test drove the vehicle and it was fine, there were many things that would cause an engine light to come on. I told him I had to drive 1800 miles back to Canada with my wife and 2 pets, and I was not comfortable doing this with the warning system activated. Two days later, engine light comes on and vehicle chugging when starting. Took it back. Picked it up later that day, and the next day…engine light was on! Spoke with owner “Craig”. I asked to adjust the bill. I told him I would pay for the parts, but asked for the labour of $135 be returned because “he had not fixed the problem”! The discussion began….he said he was not a rich man (nor am I). I equated this experience to going to a dentist with a toothache, paying $300 and the next day…I still have a toothache. I suggested that he could not identify the problem with my vehicle, and I would now take it to Ford and pay $210 for a diagnostic check. He did not agree to return the labour fees. He suggested that I sell the car?? I’m visiting here from Canada, and this was not realistic. It was apparent that the problem was above his level of expertise (3 visits?) after a discussion, he offered me $50. I said I didn’t think that was fair. He said what would make me happy? I told him again, I would appreciate the refund of the labour costs-$135. He advised he was not paying that and said “you’re not taking the $50, then I’m giving you nothing! I took the $50. You judge…. 2 of the 4 days I was there, the place stunk of marihuana (8:30 in the morning)! I would look elsewhere for reliable service and someone who cares about their reputation and their customer...
Read moreBought a 2005 Hyundai Sante Fe with 135k on 12/12/17. Nice enough car to warrant getting overdue water pump and timing belt and took to Honest E to get them replaced on 1/15/18. 1 month later car overheated and blew a head gasket. With car barely drivable, didn't see any water leakage for about 2 weeks and was then able to track it. Took off shroud and saw that someone never put clamp back in place on lower radiator hose. Took back to H.E. to see if they could do anything for me. Said they wouldn't drain coolant system that way, would use draincock. Possible, but awfully suspicious seeing how it never overheated the first month I owned it and they didn't tell me it was low on coolant when they drained it. Plus if they didn't do it, would have been awfully nice had they caught it. They knew I just bought it after all and I'm assuming they would have given it a once over to see if they could make money suggesting another repair. Owner Craig told me to pound sand. Wish my old, trusted mechanic of 25 years hadn't died recently. I'm fairly certain this shop caused me a lot of heartache. Hope you have better luck than I did.
UPDATE: Contacted the BBB and told them same as above. Told them the caveat that there was a possibity Honest Engine didn't drain system by hose etc, but then Honest Engine's response was COMPLETELY dishonest, to the point of being laughable. I was giving them a bit of the benefit of the doubt before, but not now. Honest Engine is not an honorable place. They totally lied about our interaction. If you take your vehicle there and they rip you off, all I can say is that I tried to warn you. Thanks Honest Engine, I'm very sure you caused me a lot of money...
