The Guilded Grayland: More Than a Store, A True Gaming Community
As someone relatively new to the world of modern board games, I was initially hesitant when invited to visit The Guilded Grayland. However, my experience compelled me to write this review. From the moment you walk in, it's clear that this establishment is built around one central theme: community.
Positives
Extensive and Accessible Selection: Upon entering, visitors are greeted by an impressive and extensive selection of board games. The collection caters to all skill levels, from novice to expert. When I inquired about specific games, the employees demonstrated exceptional knowledge, skillfully guiding me toward titles that matched my interest and experience level.
Fair and Transparent Pricing: In an industry where costs can be high, The Guilded Grayland stands out. Prices are transparent and competitive, with many items marked at or below standard retail value. There are no hidden costs, which is a much-appreciated business practice.
Exceptional Staff and Atmosphere: The staff's passion is evident in the welcoming and inclusive atmosphere they cultivate. It's common to witness staff members greeting patrons by name, sharing high fives, and fostering a genuine sense of camaraderie. They are clearly invested in their customers' experience, which is refreshing to see.
Flexible Play Options: The store offers a variety of ways to engage. Patrons can purchase memberships, rent board games, or buy a day pass for full access to their rental library. Impressively, they also welcome guests to bring their own games and play for free. For those looking to get started, the store hosts a free board game night every Thursday after 6:00 PM, which I highly recommend.
Comfortable Environment & Amenities: The space is well-lit and comfortable. During quieter moments, it has the calm and pleasant ambiance of an antique shop. For refreshments, a refrigerator is stocked with a variety of sodas, energy drinks, and water, alongside a selection of chips, candy, and muffins. All items are reasonably priced, with most costing just a dollar plus tax.
Minor Considerations
Location: The store is situated in the downtown area across from the library. As is common in many downtown urban areas, individuals experiencing homelessness may be present nearby. Visitors should simply remain aware of their surroundings when entering and exiting the building.
Conclusion The Guilded Grayland is a standout establishment in Shawnee. The excellent staff has not only curated a fantastic selection of games but has also successfully built a vibrant and loyal community. Despite minor considerations regarding its downtown location, the store delivers an experience that far exceeds the expectations of a typical game store. It is more than just a retail space; it is a thriving hub for gamers and a testament to the power of a passionate and dedicated team. Images taken from...
Read moreThe atmosphere was very pleasant. The bigger guy working the front counter had this large gingery and brown beard and was very welcoming, his name was Brandon I think but I may be wrong lol. Either way he took the time to happily explain the plans they have and had recommendations that were centered towards your bang for your buck. The large variety of activities and niches they accommodate is impressive and makes the guilded greyland a wonderful place to frequent. The hope of nerds, geeks and TCG jockeys alike is that it will be a main stay...
