Having lived in California my whole life, I had my first encounter of racism in this trash store. Like all tourists, I was excited visiting the little town for the first time and I was taking photos left and right while shopping for a souvenir. Random lady who worked at the store came up to me with a hostile attitude, told me I couldn’t take photos and snatched the cup I was holding in my hand. Respectfully, I said ok and put down my camera. Then she told me I had to delete the photos I took due to copyright. Again, I respect their store policy so I did what I was told without questioning anything or saying a word back. That’s when she felt that she has the right to take it further to make her racist commentary by saying “you Chinese people take photos and steal our design” and claimed that I would take it back to “my country” to replicate.
