This hotel has BED BUGS! I couldn't believe it since I've never encountered such a thing. On 05/29/2019 we check in...we get room 115. At 3am I wake up insanely itchy on the sides of my torso & my ankle & I have hives.I thought to myself I really hope it's not bed bugs! So I grab my phone & turn on the flashlight & start looking I didn't find anything... I go back to bed I wake up about 30 min later & now I have the hives on my wrist & once again I'm super itchy. I move the sheet BAM! I see something crawling & I trap it with the sheet ..I wake up my husband & tell him to give me a tissue.. I grab the bedbug & take it to the front office. Ana handled everything very professionally she moved us rooms ... But when we were moving all our belongings ... My husband saw another bug & it got away cause those suckers are fast... my sister looked up bedbugs & confirms that indeed they are bedbugs. When I look at the pillow that my 8 month old daughter was laying next to, I see a tiny translucent bedbug... & I start freaking out.
I call Ana at the front desk crying & I tell her I'm not comfortable being at this hotel & ask if they have another hotel they're linked with so she calls me back & gets us a room at their sister hotel-Hotel Corque- a few blocks away. She tells me she emailed the manager & I ask her if she wants me to give her the bedbug I found to show the manager she says no that the email explains the situation. Ana was really nice & empathized with us & handled everything so well. She also told me they will compensate for the night. However I do have to pay for a night stay at Hotel Corque. This whole ordeal ruined our trip since I was sleep deprived, itchy & baby as well to say the least. The next day I call Hadsten Hotel to speak with the manager & receptionist tells me oh yeah so actually we had the room checked and it has no bedbugs... I couldn't believe it. I tell her that those were definitely bed bugs & I will personally go & show my bites & go show them the pictures of the bugs. She then says that she'll have the manager call me back..& then tells me that I left behind my daughter's otteroo floatie. So I get a call from the manager her name is Kristie, she's a new manager to the hotel. I explain everything in detail. I'm just speechless to say the least at her unprofessionalism. She wasn't empathetic at all. She repeatedly stated that she's 100% sure there's no bed bugs "according to the report". She tells me that people automatically think it's bed bugs when they get bitten but that it was most likely a mosquito or fleas if someone had a pet in that room. I'm baffled to say the least. Her deamenor & tone was rude. I was explaining the precautions I took since I'm certain it's bedbugs & how that night when they moved us rooms I threw out my clothes & my 8 months clothes after we showered & moved hotels & how I am also going to leave behind our luggage & most clothes (Bedbugs are great hitchhikers) Her reply was " I'm not responsible for your belongings & I want to make that clear, we are not responsible for your belongings." I let her know I wasn't asking for compensation I was merely stating the precautions I'm taking because I'm positive I encountered bedbugs & they're denying it. During the conversation she states that I shouldn't go pick up my "pillow" since bed bugs travel. I let her know it's a swimming floatie not a pillow. But now that I think about it ummm isn't she 100% sure it wasn't bed bugs yet she's telling me I shouldn't go pick up what she thought was a pillow that I left behind.... Interesting right? She also couldn't give me a corporate email or number since according to her she's 3 days in & can't give me a number she doesn't have... manager Kristie was rude & had the worst customer service. Such a nuisance having these bites & now I have to treat all our belongings we brought back so we don't bring these...
Read moreWe have been visiting Solvang for 30 years and have stayed in various hotels in the area. For several years we stayed at the Danish Country Inn across the street from the Hadsten House, which is now the Holiday Inn Express. We were not happy with how that hotel has declined so we decided to try the Hadsten House. The Hadsten House has gone through a remodel and I have to say this will be our go to hotel in Solvang for now. The room decor is beautiful, new paint, nice new window shutters, new bed linens and new furniture. We felt the room decor calming and relaxing, especially after a 5 hour drive from up north. The king size bed was clean and comfortable. We stayed there for 5 days and housekeeping did a great job cleaning and restocking items every morning, except they forgot to replenish the paper cups for coffee. One thing they were lacking was a dresser with drawers, however they did have a large armoire for hanging up clothes. The whole hotel property was kept clean. We went to breakfast only once and the breakfast room is large, good for groups and families. The food was typical for a free breakfast, eggs, bacon, potatoes, cereals, pastries, juices, coffee & tea. I like that they have real dinnerware and utensils, not paper plates and plastic forks and spoons. I gave the Hadsten House 4 stars because the pool water looked murky to me, although that did not stop other patrons from swimming. The temperature outside was over 100 degrees that week and I was disappointed not to go in for a dip. Their jacuzzi area is real nice and is located just outside the pool, with a outdoor fireplace. Making it a very inviting atmosphere to relax for those cool evenings. The best part is the price! The Hadsten House is very affordable for what you get. It is well maintained, clean, helpful friendly staff, free parking, free breakfast, what not to love!...
Read moreWe had an ok stay at this place. There were definitely some issues, but Solvang has never been the best place for finding good hotels so it was pretty much on par.
First the good: the room was fine. Just a standard motel type room, nothing really special beyond the fact it was recently renovated.
The central common area was nice. Better than you’ll usually find in a motel. There’s a nice area with some games that my kids liked, and there’s an overpriced bar for the adults to enjoy while the kids are playing.
Breakfast was pretty good and the service in the restaurant was good.
Now the bad…our room had a really annoying issue. The smoke detector in our room was chirping all night. For anyone who is a light sleeper and has been the victim of a smoke detector with a low battery, you know how annoying this is. Maintenance is not available at night and it couldn’t be addressed until ~8am the next day. I barely slept that night. The front desk was pretty indifferent about the whole thing, I never even got an apology.
Which leads me to another annoyance: Marissa the AI chatbot. You’ll get a text from someone (actually “something”) named Marissa during your stay. They actually had me fooled for a second until I tried to tell Marissa about a real problem I had (the smoke detector) and it just completely fell flat. Get some real customer service please.
For $300 a night I was expecting more. And before anyone says the smoke detector isn’t the hotel’s fault: the right way to do it is change the battery at a fixed interval so no guests have to deal with incessant...
