Costco has been such a disappointment. I really wanted to like them because they treat their employees well and have good quality products, but the way they treat their customers continues to astound me. Due to the fact that they're a membership store, you pay to shop there before you even give them money in exchange for their goods, which is fine, but how does that match up with checking your membership card at the door? You can't buy anything without scanning your card first? This is an unnecessary staff position and burden for customers. Then when checking out, they compare your card with your license to "make sure that people are using their own cards", and then once more before you can finally pay them for the goods you want to buy, your card has to be scanned before any items. Three steps to make sure you're allowed to buy their goods?!? Could this not be simplified and cheaper (passing the savings onto the customer like they claim) by eliminating unnecessary staff positions by not having self-checkouts? Then there's the whole checking your receipt at the door thing, which we're told is because they "want to make sure that we got all the correct prices" Give me a break - they're checking for theft. How would the person at the door know every current price of everything at the store at any given time anyway? And how on earth could anyone be stealing after the extensive process they make you go through every step of the way ahead of that and the cameras throughout the store? In line with this, bags aren't available and they don't want you to use your own. You can't load groceries directly into your own bags at checkout because Costco refuses to offer the simple solution that every other grocery store with a self-checkout has and zero them out. Again, maybe self-checkouts aren't the right fit for Costco if this this is how they choose to run their store/are so concerned about theft? They are clearly terrified of theft of their giant bulk items. Also, what's the problem if someone wants to lend someone else their membership card? They're still coming in to give Costco money for the goods they sell? Surely they make more money from people borrowing cards then their membership fees? I know it's a membership store, but really, what's the harm in being more accessible to the people who truly need their discounts and less exclusive? Exclusivity is not the feel I get from being in their store - they need to get over themselves. They operate like an authoritarian state. Same with their gas - why not advertise the price so people can make an informed-decision about whether it's where they want to fuel up or not? Forcing people to get in line and get all the way up to the pump before they can see the price and decide is shady and not customer-focused. They know that people will likely stay and fill up even if it's not the price they wanted - they've already spent the time waiting. I'm glad that they are a company that treats their employees well, including benefits and pay, but how they continue to get away with treating their customers like criminals, fools and sheep blows me away. Maybe their are locations out there that don't enact these policies in such a draconian manner, but until then, we will be letting our membership lapse and encouraging others to...
Read moreI have been a card carrying member of Costco for many years. Recently I purchased a dishwasher from Costco, knowing that if I were to have any issues, Costco would have my back. After the dishwasher was installed for 13 months, the line used to install the water supply from the sink to the dishwasher failed. This resulted in the flooding of my home.
I contacted Costco immediately to let them know and they made me feel like they were going to take good care of me. I was eventually transferred to the large appliance and concierge teams. I had to pay a technician out of my own pocket $165 to come out and assess that the supply line used on the dishwasher was one that should typically only be used on washing machines. Because it was a robber line, each time it was pressurized and fill, it would rub on the opening of the cabinetry and eventually were through and burst, causing flooding to my kitchen and to my newly finished basement and theater room and bathroom.
I jump through all the hoops and provided all the documentation and support I needed to multiple parties at multiple places and continually did all the legwork and follow up on my own. No one was willing to take accountability for the error. Costco kept letting me know that they would ensure that the responsible party would take responsibility. I went back-and-forth with Costco for 14 months on this issue, meanwhile my house was left with damage until I finally contacted my own insurance company. Long story short, I was told that there would be nothing done on my behalf because it is possible the line ruptured due to me moving my own dishwasher. I don’t know why anyone would move their own dishwasher and this made no sense to me. Costco stood behind this explanation as well.
I had renewed my Costco membership in good faith, expecting them to deliver on the promise that they made to me to take care of things and make things right. I am severely disappointed and will never renew my membership or shop there again, which is a shame because I live right across the way. I will also let everyone know if my experience in the hopes that they do not receive this type of poor customer service, being led on for months while doing all...
Read moreI don't like this store at all. The products are good but some of their employees are absolutely rude. My family and I had a very disturbing experience with one of the Food Service Assistant, an elderly lady, I think her name is Roxanne or something similar. She is always so unprofessional and her attitude toward us was rude, aggressive and probably racist. She started to yell at my husband when he was trying to taste what she was offering. This lady told him not to take food until she finished filling the whole tray with food, my husband initially thought she was jocking so he extended his hand to reach to the food when she angrily told him not to do it or she will cut his fingers with the scissor!! other people were taking food from the tray and she didn't say anything to them. I couldn't believe her behavior. I went to talk with one of the store manager that was in that moment walking around and close to this lady's stand. When this lady saw me talking to the manager she started screaming at me and insulting me! the manager only apologized for the situation and asked me to ignore her and leave, and promised me that he would take care of the situation. I was shaking in disbelief. I went to pay and left in hope that the manager would do something. I didn't visit this store for months after that experience. I went back a few days ago and this lady was there, talking very loudly and criticizing to another person with the food service assistant that was next to her station. I know now that the manager did nothing to correct her behavior. This lady is still there with the same horrible attitude, rudeness, unkind, and unprofessional as always. Also I dislike the fact that some of the employees assume that if you have dark hair you may speak only Spanish, just because you aren't blonde hair or blue eyed?, isn't that rude and racist?. PLEASE Costco's managers, educate your people not to use stereotypes to approach to customers and make sure that those who will be in direct contact with the public at least know the...
