Wakefield Books — Local services in South Kingstown

I like the idea of a local bookstore, and I really try to support local businesses. But, over the past two years, I've made a number of special orders. Maybe one every 8 weeks. Over time, you would think they might remember my name on the phone or when I arrive without having to spell it. It's a really simple name. Yet, each and every time they act like they don't know me. Not the slightest hint of recognition. In effect, they don't seem to care. They don't make the slightest effort to get to know a client or remember a name. I'm not looking for someone to turn cartwheels when I come in, but how about just once pretending that you've seen me or remembered my name. No recognition at all. This week, I ordered a book that could have come overnight from elsewhere, but I ordered here. When I went to pick it up, same story. "How do you spell that?" When it was found, the book was just passed over the counter and when I paid, all I got was "OK, you're all set." Not "thanks" or "thanks for coming." Just "OK". Petty complaint, maybe. But, if I'm going to be treated like I don't matter, I can just stick with Amazon. It will be equally anonymous, but at least...

Wakefield books is a wonderful store. We love to go as a family and just browse. Usually, we find something that we can't resist. It is a popular gift certificate location, so we are often are headed there as our destination.

The staff are very friendly and helpful. They keep a several curated stacks of new and interesting books. Honestly, I use my eReader or my phone to do most of my reading, but holding a book in my hand is a pleasure that I can't give up completely. This store is where I usually go to satisfy...

Fantastic local bookstore. Excellent selection if you're looking for something current or reasonably current to read in the way of fiction, historical, or sightseeing. Lots of children's books. Lots of stuff on sale that is reasonably current. Charming staff who will help you out. Please do as I do and support small bookstores.
