Grit is a big one-story gym in South Miami and Dadeland area. There are a few parking spots outside the building but can get taken very quick during busy hours. The area is safe from my experiences and there are security cameras too.
The inside is a big open space with various equipments and accessories. Examples are bikes, rowers, weights, skiers, etc. There are no treadmills because people just run outside and/or at the back alley roadâvery safe, for real.
Classes consist of different workouts: Core, Fit, Strength, Grit, etc. You can find the schedule on their website. Every class is different, which is fun because you never get bored and get to work out different body parts. An example of a workout class (from 6/29 Sat) is: Warmup and stretch 1 mile row or 2 mile bike 100 pushups 1 mile run 100 thrusters 1 mile row or 2 mile bike (Scale accordingly)
The coaches I know of are Alex, Kris, Edgar, Emily, Mike, Gabe. They work well together and are approachable, easy to talk to, and very motivational. They never made me felt like I was inadequate. I really like the way that Kris, Edgar, and Emily coaches. Edgar, especially, would always check on my forms and teach me correct ways with lots of patience. I appreciate that. My boyfriend loves Gabe and his style of coaching. Alex mostly does personal training and monitors the gym with devices in his hands. Kris is like a father-figure.
There is a small Infrared Sauna in the Changing Room. Towels are required. Bring your own or buy/borrow theirs. I havenât taken advantage of it yet but will soon. I keep forgetting to bring a towel haha.
The entrance area has tables and chairs for kids or for those waiting/chilling. Sometimes the kids play in the gym area during classes, which I think is VERY dangerous, but itâs up to the coaches and parents on the safety of the kids. If the kids get hurt...they should know better not to have allowed that in the first place. Aside from that, there are vending machines, apparels for sale, shelves, water fountains, phone chargers, devices for checking into the classes, flyers/brochures for local businesses, protein bars, and more.
Membership prices as of today are: $149 - Unlimited individual $119 - Unlimited for Family #2 $99 - Unlimited for Family #3 $80 - 5 classes Discounts are available for First Responders, nurses, military/veterans, teachers, students. Right now they are running a special of 14 days for $14. Thatâs a great deal for those who want to try out the gym.
People of all agesâwell, not kidsâcome to Grit. Itâs a great place to network and be surrounded by people who want to workout for better health, get in shape, get more energy, etc. If you have any questions, everyone is more than welcome to chat. It just depends on who you feel connected with, and go from there. A lot of young professionals come to the gym so itâs a great place to make friends too.
Overall, I really enjoy coming to the gym so far. I am just a few months in and my body is just getting adjusted to working out more on a regular basis. The classes are tough and intense for me, but I scale accordingly and try not to kill myself. If the workout requires heavy weights, Iâll use kettlebells or dumbbells in the meantime. Iâve tried to do the workouts fully before and ended up feeling dizzy and nauseous. However, I am getting better and better, and am able to fulfill some of the workouts more.
Remember, itâs more of a marathon than a race. Donât overkill your body and health, do it at your own pace and listen to your body. I find that after not being in school anymore and not having many coworkers at my job, itâs hard to meet people, especially those who are motivated, dedicated, willing to get better, and more. This is a great place for that and surround...
Read moreStarting CrossFit at close to 50 isnât an easy decision. I have been practicing endurance sports for a long time but I wanted to experiment with a more wholesome sport. I have looked around ALL the CrossFit, Orange Theory and gyms in the 10 miles radius from my house. Gyms despite being cheaper, donât give you the same level of motivation and quality of training because most frequently you are on your own. Orange theory are good for cardio but offer little body sculpting. Most of the CrossFit gyms around here seem not welcoming and very aggressive. The very first time I walked into GRIT I felt very at ease. Everyone is super friendly. It feels like a family. The gym is spacious, excellently equipped and clean (it smells fantastic); You will find people from all different level of training and age. Nobody ridicules any body. Everyone respects every one. GRIT offers MANY classes through the day starting at 530a and pretty much every hour until past 8p. The WODs are challenging but doable. There are at least two coaches for each class and they are ALWAY making sure that everyone respects form, correcting the posture and adjust the weight level if necessary. GRIT also has an APP on which you can see all the WOD, schedules, etc. I cannot be happier to have take the decision to join GRIT. I would most definitely recommend anyone to join, no matter your age or training level....
