La Internacional Condos — Local services in South Padre Island

The location is great, and that’s where the greatness ends. We rented room 102 through Island Services, via AirBnB. This will be the last time I rent from Island Services due to the poor condition of the room and the hidden/after-the-booking fees, and unless desperate, the last time I use AirBnB due to the high and deceptive level and number of layered extra fees. The room we rented from Island Services (unit 102) had a great location but was far overpriced for what it was, and had been poorly maintained/had several problems that should have been attended to long ago, and had a TV that was sitting lopsided on the TV stand because the old stand was not wide enough for the (average-sized) TV. The woman who was on staff was helpful and diligent but when we finished vacating the room later then the (11am) posted checkout time, warned us that I may be charged for a late checkout. When informed I had already checked out (the check-in/check-out facility if you rent through Island Services is a couple of miles away), she indicated that nonetheless I could be charged for late checkout. I spoke with another visitor who rented a unit at La Internacional from another company, and they had been shown a room with an ocean view and were instead looking at the building next door. In short, this place is right on the beach, no frills, but generally overpriced. I recommend not to stay here, and in the future I plan to shop around on VRBO or directly through local rental shops. I will be using AirBnB as a last resort rather than a default going forward, as their fee structure is unreasonable and deceptive. This was the worst deal I’ve ever gotten on a vacation rental. I give the place two stars because the location is great (I happen to like Wanna Wanna grill which has umbrella rentals and is right next door), and access is convenient, the place is just mispriced if booked...

We stayed in room 202. This place has an Awesome air conditioning. Only thing is the air smells old! Vent looks rusted! No daily cleaning. You have to go exchange your towels for new ones. Pay to wash clothes. Room was ok. Beds had black hairs and stuff in them. Had to call to get the beds changed. The furniture looks to be from a garage sale. Buttons missing off the recliner. It doesn’t appear they put much money into this place. Noisy as hell from the people above us! You hear walking, running, showers and everything. It’s decent but not for the price they charge. It’s on the low end of places to stay. Bathroom vent hanging down and noisy when the light is on. You won’t be paying for the room and I wouldn’t stay here again. You pay for the view. T.V. doesn’t work in the bedroom. They said they’d come look at it and never did. No cable in the bedroom is the issue here. Three different times, random people that work here came into our room. Like they don’t pay attention to who’s checking in or out. There is no staff on hand through the night. The elevator looks like a box that is going to break down. There is a number you can call. The POOL is what disappointed me the most! It feels like really warm bath water even at night! They need to run cold water in it every day. You come back from a hot beach, your all salty...so it would be nice to have a nice cold pool to chill out. You won’t find that here! Truly the only perks this place has are its proximity to the beach and the view. Otherwise this place is BAD. These condos haven’t been updated since they were built (the 80’s maybe?). The condo has a damp smell, and the walls have peeling and cracked paint and holes everywhere. The bathroom in our unit had its towel bar ripped out of the wall previously it seems, as there are just holes where the bar should be. The chair cushions were stained brown. I could see into the A/C vent and the air filter was filthy, clearly it hasn’t been changed in a long time. There are no outlets near the beds to charge phones in the bedroom, and the beds are extremely uncomfortable with just two sheets provided as covers. If all you are concerned about is price and proximity to the beach without any concern for the place where you are staying or personal comfort, this is the place for you.
