We recently had a very troubling experience at this coffee shop. The owner used his position to share his political beliefs and personal opinions in a way that was both unexpected and inappropriate. Instead of focusing on providing good coffee, he interrogated us about our vaccination status and made us uncomfortable with personal questions. We are literally on vacation, and this is the last thing we want to deal with. He voiced unsubstantiated concerns about the COVID vaccine, shared divisive political views, and made inflammatory comments about various political figures. This behavior was unprofessional and made us feel unwelcome.
Furthermore, the owner lamented the shop's decline in business, attributing it to the current president. However, it seems more likely that his combative and cult-like attitudes are driving new customers away. According to other reviews, if customers don’t agree with him, he reacts with anger, yelling, and berating them. We chose to nod and say as little as possible to get out of there as quickly as we could. When people visit a coffee shop, they are expecting at minimum a pleasant experience, not what we endured.
For a more enjoyable coffee shop experience, I recommend Cafe Karma. With two locations on SPID, they feature interesting artwork, books, and offer a range of beverages, including coffee and boba tea, as well as ice cream, savory sandwiches, and pastries. The atmosphere is friendly, clean, and inviting, with a bright and cheerful ambiance and lots of tables to sit and enjoy. In contrast, Milo’s felt dark and unwelcoming with a strange sitting area that included a TV with a built-in VHS player. The chalkboard menu above the register is not up-to-date because the owner said "I don't see the point" So is he saying he doesn't see the point in posting a menu that shows the most up-to-date items they offer? Please do yourself a favor and skip Milo’s because the coffees that we ordered tasted the same as you'd get...
Read moreI was excited to try this place, tbh. SPI always needs more small businesses and Milo's looked like a nice cozy little shop. So, I decided to drop by and grab a latte this morning and give them a try!
Entering the business, I instantly felt a wave of nostalgia when I saw an old CRT and a knockoff NES set up between two big comfy couches. There were lots of merch shelves along the walls and, overall, the place felt small in a comfortable and close way. This honestly could have been a fantastic little hangout spot for me and my family.
As it is, I'll never be going back, as the delightful atmosphere was completly shattered by a bizarre mix of snails-pace order preparation and shockingly unprofessional conversation.
Before even taking my order, the owner at the counter found it necessary to lecture me and the guy ahead of me about his politics. Easily five minutes passed as he yammered on about "woke" this and "woke" that. When the other customer, who was able to grab his drinks and quickly retreat in between homophobic slurs, I was finally able to order.
I then had to stand there and continue the polite nodding game while this nutball basically did a particularly shitty Greg Gutfeld routine for me while his understandably silent wife took what seemed like a century to make my coffee.
Once I got my drink, I decided to skip trying out the couches and Nintendo and extricated myself from the situation. The coffee was aggressively average and nothing to write home about.
I suggest the owner keep up the political brow beating of his customers, since it's apparent he doesn't like most of his...
Read moreUpon entering the shop the atmosphere was already uncomfortable because of the owner. Owner was extremely rude to us for simply taking photos and videos of their “cute” shop. Owner went on and on about how we are “retarded” and “brainless” for simply wanting to take photos of their shop. The lady behind the counter was trying to tell us about what they had the whole time listening to his little pointless side remarks the entire time. We decided to go elsewhere to which he said that’s fine go somewhere else. When we stated we will be leaving a review he followed it with “we LOVE those.” We are tourists and enjoy visiting small independent places. Owner went on a huge rant! It was extremely uncomfortable and awkward for us as customers. Will NEVER return! These five star reviews must be people who were lucky enough to not have had to interact with the owner on their first time being there. Typical Houston behavior since that’s where he was part of HPD, according to another review. Bringing Houston to SPI? Trash, should go to...
