Two stars because it was clean and the products were fun and relevant, but I will probably never go back because of some unethical behavior of one of their psychic readers, Sam.
I came in with my daughters and granddaughters for The psychic fair. There were seven of us, some experienced, some new to the craft. We all got readings. Everyone had a relatively positive experience, except my daughter who sat with Sam, who did a tarot reading.
This daughter is one of the most grounded, compassionate, realistic, and “put together” people I know. She is kind, self-aware, and very intuitive.
Sam put a negative spin on every card he drew in her reading, even when it could have been interpreted as positive. He proceeded to tell her that she was a “show boater,” that she brags too much about her accomplishments and puts on a mask rather than being open and honest with people, that she feels “icky” inside and needs a therapist. He said “I don’t normally do this but…” then pulled out a clip board with a stack of papers with his wife’s contact information and said she’s really good therapist!
I am an LCSW (licensed clinical social worker). I looked up his wife’s name. She is a CSW, which is only a certified social worker, not licensed to practice independently. If she is, it is not only unethical, but illegal to practice without a license it’s possible she is working at a clinic under provisional supervision, but even then, if she is aware that her husband is referring clients to her, it is unethical, and she could be professionally sanctioned.
You should be aware that this is happening in your business, and it should be stopped. I sincerely hope you will do something about it, because his behavior, had it been someone who is, unlike my daughter, unstable, it could cause serious harm.
Thanks for your...
Read morePretty shop. Not enough books for my tastes, but I totally understand why they don't carry many with all the online book buying options. The owner was very friendly when I came in and almost over-welcoming, but that was OK. She was trying and that was great! After I got out of my reading she was gone and her co-worker was the only one available. I'm sure she is a nice person, but I felt rushed like I wasn't allowed to take my time deciding on whether or not to buy a product. Also, when I told her why I wasn't going to buy the product she kept on making reasons why my reason could be overcome. Now I'm sure she was just trying to be helpful, but it came across like a hard-sell. And I'm totally sure she wasn't aware how she came across so I'd give this place another try when I'm back up north, no hard feelings. I took a self tour and loved the ritual space in the back, it looks well loved. Made me wish I lived in SLC so I could attend rituals there. The library area, though not well stocked on books, is beautiful and if I lived here I'd spend a lot of time there reading, playing games, meeting friends and drinking the coffee and water (donating for each cup of course). Another reviewer complained about the high prices; I say to that, what products aren't these days really? They do have a small collection of used books and magazines for sale. All in all, it's a gift of a shop and I'd come back again. I gave it three stars instead of four because of the lack of books, my experience with the co-worker and the lack of safe parking out front. All pagan shops have their good points and bad points, and these people are doing our community a...
Read moreI found the staff to not only be very knowledgeable, but they are very welcoming as well. The Hollow is a very unique place where like minded people can gather and socialize, share, teach, learn and if you happen to need something for your craft you are likely to find it. If not, and what happened when they didn't have what I asked for they got it for me anyway. Not everyone is willing to do that. I watched as the Crone and her Hollow provided a haven for local Pagans and Pagan friendly folks can come together. They even have the public in to learn what various paths of Paganism are all about. There is no other "store" in Utah that can compare. As a native Utahn I am quite impressed with the thought, the love and the knowledge that brought the Hollow to our community. Even now, as I watch from Salem Oregon, I can stay abreast of what is happening and feel like my friends are not so very far away or removed from my life. This establishment is a gift from the Gods for many of us who would be practicing alone if not for such a warm and inviting beacon in the cold cold...
