Updated post (original more detailed post below):
For the past 10 years, Rachel and her team are the only ones who have cut and colored my hair and I've never even been tempted to go anywhere else. Always great cuts and care to the hair. The salon is also upbeat and friendly. Rachel is always training and teaching junior stylists, which is a joy to see and sets the tone for the positivity of the place.
If you have curly hair, this place is a must. Rachel runs a fantastic business that is both friendly and professional, and her cuts are the best.
I have tight curls (3c) and have endured my fair share of bad cuts. Right before I moved to SLC, I had a curl specialist cut my hair in Seattle that resulted in a noticeable rat tail and complete unevenness which was so bad that another stylist had to correct it by chopping off most of my hair. Needless to say, I was nervous moving to SLC which was smaller, and seemed to have fewer curls. So when I found Rachel who specializes in curls, I tried her out and will say that if I ever move away, I will fly back for her.
At your first appointment, she will also do a consultation, showing you what products to use and how to style your hair. This is interactive and hands on. She is very generous with giving you samples to try. My hair looked so good, I decided to buy the products she recommended. And while the cost is higher than what I was paying for grocery store product, it lasts much longer (use less), and my hair consistently looks good. Once my hair just completely frizzed out, so I texted Rachel with a picture and she got back to me right away with how to fix it. Bottom line: trust the curl expert on how to take care of your hair.
The salon is spacious, clean, and uplifting in its decor. You are always greated by a warm receptionist and asked if you want anything to drink. If you are waiting for color to set, there are magazines and wifi. At checkout, you get a free gift (hair bands or travel size product) and are given generous samples of anything you may need. I've always enjoyed the conversations I have with Rachel, her staff, and other clients. It's just a friendly place and I find myself looking forward to getting my hair cut!
While at other salons in other states (MA, CA, and WA) I have had to take advantage of the complimentary "fix" cut within two weeks, I have never had to here. I also enjoy not paying a curly hair premium (in the past I had to do this even with stylists who specialize in curls).
My hair has never been so healthy in its life. If Rachel thinks a treatment will damage your hair, she will let you know, so that you can make an informed decision. And she will offer alternative treatments and do what she can do to help you get your curls healthy enough for what you want (more color in my case).
If you are still on the fence, take a look at the salon's Instagram and you will see how great the cuts are as well as some pretty impressive before/after photos. And if you are worried about your type of curl, just give them a call!
Overall, this place is great, and I recommend it to everyone I know with curls. My family has complimented on how good my hair looks since I moved here. I no longer keep it tied back all day and I can grow it longer without it looking sad.
Hands down, best place to get...
Read moreBut more to the point, unfortunately our haircuts/color were disasters. Aspen and Tayslee were lovely girls. We had a great time while we were there. However, the next day, we noticed that my daughter’s color was very splotchy and just kinda of all over the place. She has patches of hair that are completely different colors. That’s not what one usually expects from color at a professional hair studio.
In addition to being colored, my daughter’s hair was to be trimmed back to healthy ends and layered. There was a tiny trim, but her ends are still fried. And I’m pretty sure no layers were cut.
I’m a pasty white lady with no curls, so I didn’t expect miracles, but Oh Dear. The stylist seemed to have the mechanics of a haircut down but didn’t consider the texture, thickness, or any other characteristics of the hair. I asked several times for layers to be added, repeatedly showed the pic of the hairstyle I wanted, pointing them out, and ended up with a bit of layering in the last couple of inches of my hair. And after the stylist had been working on my hair for probably 45 minutes and washed and towel dried it, she asked me if I had any curl in my hair. I would think she would have noticed by then that I don’t. To be brutally honest, I was surprised to hear how long she had been doing hair. She struck me more as someone who was learning the basics.
We spent a large sum of money on our hair that day. I think we could have gotten much better results from a regular salon at a much lower price.
We’re not asking for a refund (the policies on the website clearly state that there are no refunds), but we’re also not interested in the 14-day guarantee to go back and have the stylists tweak their work. I honestly don’t know if they are capable of doing anything different. We expected much more from a professional salon and we’re terribly disappointed. We won’t be...
Read moreI kept going back and forth about posting but ultimately decided to share my experience. My hair stylist didn’t listen to me and didn’t take into consideration what was important to me. I told my stylist, Emorie, that my last haircut I had gotten layers and I hated it and that it was my least favorite haircut. I told her specifically no layers except for around the front of my face and the rest of my cut I wanted it to be super straight across the rest of my hair. She showed me, before she cut, about how she would do the layers around my face and that was it. She did very minimal layers around my face but then cut so many layers and different lengths of hair around my whole head. I have pieces that are so short all around the crown of my head. So many different lengths. My hair was also cut to a v in the back. The exact opposite of what I had told her. I was very specific and very direct about what I did and didn’t want and feel very disrespected. I don’t understand why if she felt it would be better to do differently than what I asked her that she would have communicated that with me. I didn’t even see the back of my hair until I got home and couldn’t have known the extent of the haircut at the salon because of the extensive amount of product in my hair. My lifestyle and my concerns and needs as a client were completely ignored. Going to take years to grow back to where I can wear my hair in a way that works for me. Posting this in the hopes that this doesn’t happen in the future to...
