Appalling Experience with Billing Representative Jay- Beware of Data Retention and Breaches for collections purposes before being seen.
I had an extremely frustrating encounter with the billing representative, Jay (black lady tight Jerry curl), at Desoto Family Care Clinic. She insisted that providing my Social Security Number (SSN) was needed for receiving care, yet failed to produce any official documentation to support this claim. Asked if I didnât have a phone number or address would they deny care. She stated probably so..When I questioned this requirement, she became dismissive and accused me of fraudulent behavior, despite my presentation of a valid driver's license and insurance card-both of which were verified as active by Anthony at the front desk. Anthony clarified that the SSN is only necessary if a patient's account is sent to collections, not for receiving care or for patients paying upfront. I expressed concerns about data privacy, especially in light of recent breaches, and offered to pay for the visit in CASH. Nevertheless, Jay refused and proceed, stating she didn't want to "deal with that lady and she can go to the ER," referring to me. The kicker she is not a doctor to advise anyone of care. This behavior was unprofessional and appeared to be driven by personal bias and lack of understanding rather than actual policy..
I maintained my professionalism and integrity the whole time and even Anthony front desk rep understood that I was not being hostile but needed direct answers. The billing representative Jay was screaming from the back even when my mom went to ask you know why if she's paying cash.
Ask to speak to the practice manager about this complaint and concerns and was told to just call the number on the New Patient Registration Form and ask for the manager.
There was no financial agreement to be signed included in the new patient registration forms, nor listed as their policy, and when asked for the policy to be provided stating that it was mandatory, Jay got VERY defensive over talked me , NEVER answered the questions and got dismissive and walked away and then proceeded to yell from the back office at my mother and me. In front of other patients exposing my information.
As someone who works in healthcare billing and insurance , I am aware that under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), patients have the right to protect their personal health information, and providers must safeguard this data. Up to 250,000 fine for violating HIPPA. Additionally, the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) prohibits debt collectors including MDO from engaging in abusive practices and requires them to provide validation of debts upon request.
In Mississippi, the statute of limitations for medical debt collection is three years, meaning that any attempt to collect a debt beyond this period is unlawful. Furthermore, the Mississippi Insurance Department provides guidelines to protect consumers from balance billing and unexpected medical charges. I have never been here before and again offered to pay CASH for this one visit.
Jay's actions not only violated these protections but also denied me access to necessary medical care. Desoto Family Care Clinic must reevaluate their staff training and billing practices to ensure compliance with federal and state laws and to uphold the rights and dignity of their patients new and existing patients.
The HHS and other agencies will be notified of the breach of privacy and the denial of medical care for a simple cold and diabetic care.
Read and understand your rights as a patient and advocate for your patients rights and health.
Thankfully went to another clinic and was seen with no issues nor SSN needed.
Side note the other staff that I encountered were nice and calm. But that Black lady âJayâ in billing needs more education on laws, billing medical insurance on whatâs needed to file a claim and CE training on Personal Bias in a...
Read moreFriendly staff, very welcoming no miscommunication, no hassle. Pleasant sitting, exceptional wait time. The provider was very polite, knowledgeable, understanding, very attentive and helpful. She addressed my concerns and delivered the best care possible. I will definitely continue care with this facility and recommend to anyone looking for a decent primary care.
If anyone speak ill-willed of their experience, theyâre totally the problem. Iâve been in the medical field for 10years as a CMA, now Iâm a rad tech and I donât usually tell anyone my occupation at a doctorâs visit. Anyhoot, when I say some customers are horrible with nasty attitudes, rude, etc.. and will make up anything to victimize themselves they will especially when things donât go their way or when they think that they know more than the doctors. I have seen customers make nothing into something just for the heck of it, Iâve been a victim to patients abuse because clinical staff is not doing what a patient want them to do but instead doing what is best for your health and well-being. People of this world complaint about the silliest things which are just petty things. I was reading some of the reviews and off top you can tell who is the jerk that loves being confrontational for no reasons vs. the ones who genuinely voiced their concerns but in a more sensible manner. One comment said that they waited for a hour. Please note that it is possible that the wait time may be a little longer than expected and it could vary from a range of things. There could be a staff shortage on that day. The provider may have gotten jammed up in a patientâs room due to a patient having some concerns that may require additional assistance for a few minutes. It could also be that the clinic may have more patients than expected on that day. Some people donât know how the back clinical office works things can happen unexpectedly which may cause a delay in wait time. Again some people need to know that just because your appointment says 1:00 p doesnât mean you will be seen at exactly 1:00p sometimes there may be a waiting time and if you have something to do consider scheduling your appointment in a timely manner that leave you room for the unexpected change and or delay. People donât mind waiting in a drive through line for 30/45 minutes plus for McDonalds, Wendyâs, Popeyes, etc nor do people mind waiting in restaurants to be seated which usually takes 1-2 hour wait literally have no problem with waiting for such. So why is it a problem to wait to be seen for your health concerns.
Again, my experience was a great one, no disappointment at all. So if I could give 10 stars I definitely would but since I can only give 5 stars âď¸ thatâs what Iâll do.
People please be mindful of healthcare professionals and understand that working in this field gets overwhelming. Understand that we are humans too. It doesnât cost a thing to be a nice and...
Read moreOnly been here twice. Each time I had a bad experience. Hopefully you'll have a better experience. Employees of staff kept walking in during an exam leaving the door open for all to see in the hallway as other customers were walking by!!! They lost blood work! Speak to a manager to get better answers as to what happened to the blood work. Only for the manager to get an attitude. Saying that we don't live in a perfect world. He also studied I should be lucky that he's opened during a pandemic. Which had nothing to do with the fact that they lost my blood work. I don't feel comfortable with this place will not be going back. Wow! I just saw How this office responded!.How unprofessional it was oh my goodness. Never was I rude! Never did I yell at anybody etc. This office can't stand the fact that they got a bad review. They lash out at everyone who gives you one. Just look at all the other people that giving a bad review. This goes to show the type of person they are. They can't stand when someone speaks out so they discredit them.As if they did something wrong!!
Yet your office mishandled my privacy and mishandled the blood work. Yet this is how you respond totally unacceptable totally unprofessional. You act like just because we're in a pandemic that gives you excuse to act this way! No we have choices you're not the only clinic in DeSoto county. If you don't respect your customers they're not going to continue bringing you there business bottom line. You can tell your lies , get an attitude while saying first of all, Telling people they were never your customer in the first place when they give you a bad reviews I've seen how you speak to several other people on here that gave you a bad review and everybody else can see it too. There's something literally wrong with your management. Rather to accept that changes need to be made! You discredit everyone or lie on people and say they had an attitude trying to make yourselves look good that's okay .People waiting in your waiting room for 3 hours will get the hint . Your doctor's office is poorly managed . I left you a bad review...
