Let me start by saying I’m the manager of a small escape room in Culpeper Va. Everything we do is thought up and built by us. I am a little bit biased. I prefer those type of escape rooms over franchises and escape rooms that use kits where you just throw it up and have a game. A lot of time and effort goes into these. We have done almost all the rooms at OB-Xscape. And I can say we have not had a bad experience EVER! The games are always well thought out well put together and they run and flow nicely! Super creative puzzles! The set design is over the top! And I can say that for every room, we’ve done there. We like to stop in and play every September when we visit OBX. This year was no different. We came in to play their Vegas game.. It started a little slow for us, but once we started to put some things together and realized what we were doing…. The flow of the game came together nicely! I cannot say enough, good things about the set design of this room! Probably one of my favorites at this location! Right up there with Rest in Pieces motel! Which has been my favorite game we have played here. We’ve actually had the pleasure of doing that one twice! I highly recommend you come in and check out any one of their games! I absolutely love this place and I will continue to come yearly! I Can’t wait to see what they Have coming next! I’ll also add the game masters are always so helpful and definitely add to the experience. Our Vegas game master was Alyssa. I would literally come back and ask for her to host us every game🙈 She was so nice! Super helpful! And I know that our group can be A LOT to handle. Most of our group works at an escape room so we Can be a bit much, especially myself. Alyssa was amazing! I can’t say enough good things about her, and I think she...
Read moreDo not pick the meltdown room. Although it sounds really fun and interesting, the story is very loose and falls apart as you begin to solve the puzzles. The puzzles within the room range from extremely easy to nearly impossible without a hint. The room is impossible to do without being given any hints, even though we requested no hints. Also, much of the room seemed fake, as if the game master was monitoring us through what we said and unlocking things as we said it out loud, not automatically like it should. The room was very well decorated, but extremely dark and the flashlights we were given were extremely dim and barely lit anything up. Our game master did not do a good job. She would ignore us for several minutes at a time, only to come over the mic and scold us for doing things that were not part of the game. She was absolutely no help, and just made us feel stupid the entire game. Finally, upon completing the escape room, we were not allowed to take any pictures within the room. I completely understand this, as the picture may reveal some of the answers to the room, except for two things. 1, there was absolutely nothing that could be taken away from viewing the picture at the end. Much of the room was just random keys from various places, so the picture would not have revealed where they came from. 2, upon arriving home and looking through reviews, I was shocked to find that several other people WERE allowed to take photos within the room, including meltdown. All in all, I do not understand why we couldn’t take any pictures given the circumstances. I would definitely not recommend the meltdown. There are several other escape rooms here, and I’m sure that the other rooms have really cool and fun puzzles/stories, but in my experience this was...
Read moreI’ve done over 100 escape rooms, and this place is easily in my top three when it comes to immersive theming and creative design. During our visit, we completed three rooms, each with its own strengths and challenges.
Dinosaur-Themed Room This room felt like stepping into Jurassic Park. The set design was stunning, and the puzzles were tough—even for experienced players. I wouldn’t recommend it for beginners, but if you’re up for a challenge, it’s well worth it. Huge shoutout to our game master Rachael—she was fantastic and probably our favorite game master of the entire trip. She was very helpful and laid-back, which made our experience fun.
Cold Case: The Murder of DawnRomero This was one of our group’s favorite rooms. It’s ideal for players with minimal to moderate escape room experience. The storyline was intriguing and well laid out. Our game master Autumn was friendly, though the room felt a bit more hands-off—at times, we weren’t sure what we were allowed to interact with because we kept getting corrected for picking things up such as the dolls on the shelves etc which we thought were a part of the game. Still, it was a strong room with some clever twists.
Cell Block This room was incredibly immersive. Each of us started locked in separate prison cells and had to work together to break out and solve the rest of the room. The theming was next-level and added so much intensity to the experience. We had two game masters (didn’t catch their names), but both were great—helpful and attentive.
Overall, we had a blast and will definitely be back next time we’re in the Outer Banks to take on more of their rooms. Highly recommend this location for both seasoned escape room fans and those looking to dive into something memorable...
