A couple of months ago, I decided to learn how to sew. At the time, I had a low-end Singer sewing machine that had a few basic stitches and a reverse button on it. While watching YouTube clips, I decided that I would like to purchase an upscale sewing machine with more bells and whistles such as numerous stitch choices, automatic needle threader, automatic needle up or down, automatic thread cutter, variable stitch speed limiter, automatic stitch lock, automatic button hole maker, auto button attacher etc.
After doing a Google search for Baby Lock sewing machines, I found that the Close To Home Sewing Center in Southington, CT is a Baby Lock dealer. I went there and was greeted by Marc Gattinella, the owner. He was very friendly and knowledgeable and spent a lot of time with me going over many different machines and helping me decide which sewing machine fit my wish list the best. Marc is not the typical high pressure salesman you normally find at a place like this.
I narrowed down my search to the Baby Lock Presto 2 that had all the items on my wish list and I purchased it there at a price within my budget. With help from Marc and his staff, I added some more accessories that makes my sewing experience much more professional and efficient. If you buy a sewing machine at Close To Home, they offer nine hours of free instruction to show you how to use your machine. Needless to say, I took them up on that option.
Recently, I purchased a serger from them also and I am very happy with that machine.
I do not do many reviews or recommendations, but I highly recommend Close To Home for all of your sewing needs. They have a wide variety of sewing machines, embroidery and quilting machines. Thanks A Million Marc!

Read moreBad customer service, the owner could be friendlier to new customers who are still trying to figure out what type of machine they need and what they can afford. The owner's comments and attitude made me walk out of this place to never go back. Update: I never went back to this place, and in the meantime I found another great place, Schiller's Sewing Circle in Willimantic CT. I got a brother stellaire there. I still maintain what I said about Yankee Quilter too. For good Brother experience I recommend Schiller's in Willimantic, and for Husqvarna I recommend Yankee...
Read moreI called at 3:40 pm on a weekday to see if they had a relatively common part for a Viking sewing machine. The woman who answered said she didn’t know and would check but they were closing for the day and she would call me the following day to let me know. Closing at 3:40? She said if they don’t have a part in stock and have to order it, they require people bring the machine in. So no matter how minor the part, I have to take the machine in? What a scam to charge people more. Needless to say, they never called me back as she promised. I found the part elsewhere!...
