I really wanted to enjoy this restaurant, especially since they're a small business and everyone else says it's great. Except it wasn't.
Now I did order take out, but I really don't think take out should affect anything besides texture, like something crunchy becoming soggy. I got the fresh rice paper shrimp rolls, pad Thai, honey shrimp, coconut rice dessert, and a boba drink. That totalled up over $70... I understand pricing dishes can be challenging but I've paid similar amounts at other restaurants and what I got imo was not worth $70. So let's break it down. The rice paper rolls with shrimp had like 3 layers of the wrapper, so it was just like eating rice paper with a little bit of veggies and shrimp. I also thought there would be at least some sauce or flavoring in the inside but it was only given on the side. So it was like eating a very chewy plain salad. Then for the main dishes, my pad Thai was just lacking flavor. I've made it before myself and maybe I just prefer more of the pad Thai sauce but this one just had a hint of flavor tbh. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't good either. The honey shrimp was a watery mess. However I understand for takeout the texture is obviously not gonna be as nice as dine in. But again, the flavor was just meh. I've had seaseme chicken Chinese takeout and I enjoyed that way more than the honey shrimp. It was just soggy shrimp in a watery sweet sauce. The boba was okay, maybe I got a flavor I don't like as much but it was like any other place, nothing extraordinary. The only saving grace of the order was the coconut rice pudding. It had a very nice deep coconut flavor and a good balance of sweet and salty.
If I had paid maybe under $50 then I wouldn't be as critical but they charge a pretty penny so I expect more. It was all just so underwhelming, especially after seeing the raving reviews and recommendations. I've made several of the same dishes myself and would much rather eat my own. Trust me, I am the furthest thing...
Read moreAmazing authentic Thai food. This was my second time eating here and it's now safe to say that it is my favorite thai restaurant in Connecticut. My fiancée is thai so I eat a lot of thai food.
Both time I have had the Lao Style papaya Salad. This is an amazing salad with unripe papaya, chilies, garlic, lime juice, palm sugar, salted crab, and pickled fish sauce(pla ra). One of my favorites and you should ask for very spicy.
Next, I had nom tok which is a spicy beef salad. This is with steak, mint, toasted rice powder, and a spicy dressing with fish sauce, lime, sugar and dried chilies. The steak was marinades and very tender. The steak is almost like a jerky but is not tough. I think this is an Issan dish. You could eat it with sticky rice if you want to be like Issan people. Also highly recommended.
The crispy pork gra pow has small pieces of crispy pork belly and sautéed veggies. It also includes really gra pow which is a type of basil but is not the same as thai basil or Italian basil. It's a must have and get it with a fried egg(Kai dao). If you want to share then order 2 fried eggs 🍳.
Lastly I had vegetables Pad prik pow. This is simple with grilled veggies with a chili paste. The veggies had a great texture: not overcooked or raw and great spicy level.
The previous time I also had a whole fish with spicy tamarind sauce, a duck dish, and pad prik khing. Everything has been exceptional and authentic Thai food. It is highly recommended and won't break the bank. For the amount of food I order each time it was extremely affordable.

Read more11/15/23 Let me start by saying I’ve not been a fan of Asian cuisine, but my experience at Somewhere In Bangkok made me a convert…..at least to Thai cuisine. I had lunch with old friends Dave & Pat N who convinced me to step out of the somewhat boring dining box I live in and try Thai food. I’m sure glad they did! I looked over the menu and noted that some dishes were marked with a little flame symbol denoting spice levels from 0-3. I’m not a big fan of spicy foods so I panned those. They will however, prepare any dish to the spice level you’re comfortable with. I started with a bowl of Thai rice soup that was essentially chicken rice soup. It was a very good chicken soup with a mild, not at all salty, but very flavorful broth. My main course was crab fried rice, that I asked to have a few shrimp added to. Not to understate it, but this was absolutely delicious. No skimping on either crabmeat or shrimp, and like the soup, not at all salty. The portions are very generous, and I had almost half to take home. I asked for the dessert menu and a cake caught my eye. It’s called Pan Dan cake. It was, to put it mildly, HEAVENLY. Very light like a chiffon cake, with a mild citrus flavor and topped with whipped cream. Service was spot on. I will most certainly put this delightful restaurant in...
