Absolutely Avoid JoJo's Gunworks - Incompetent and Disrespectful Service My experience at JoJo's Gunworks in Southington, CT was, without a doubt, the worst customer service encounter I've ever had with a firearms establishment. Their lack of fundamental knowledge regarding firearm sights, coupled with an astonishingly belligerent attitude, makes them a place to be actively avoided. I brought in a highly customized 1911 Gold Cup, an 80 series with a compensator, trigger job, Dawson Precision magwell, and other modifications, seeking to replace a staked front sight with a dovetail fiber optic. We discussed the work, decided on a red fiber optic sight, and were quoted around $50 for the cut. This is where the issues began. After several weeks, I was informed the sight was installed, but bizarrely, they claimed the rear adjustable target sight was "too high" and they had installed a higher front sight to compensate and allow the rear sight to be lowered. Instinctively, this made no sense for a gun that was already on target. Upon seeing the gun, my suspicions were confirmed: the front sight was grotesquely high, and the rear sight was bottomed out, creating a visibly dramatic elevation difference. When I questioned their logic, they became instantly belligerent, attempting to "explain" that lowering the rear sight was the same as raising the front sight, and even suggested I "take an NRA class." They refused to engage in any meaningful discussion or look at a simple sketch I tried to draw to illustrate my point, simply telling me to "just shoot the gun and do the fine adjustment." I paid $125 for the sight and installation, against my better judgment. Further research solidified my conviction that their approach was fundamentally flawed. Taking the gun to the range, as expected, it wouldn't even hit the paper. To even get the bullet on target, the rear sight had to be raised so far that the sight assembly came apart, and it was still two inches low. Returning to JoJo's to explain the situation was met with outright disbelief and denial. I reiterated that I had not asked for a taller sight and pointed out that the excessively tall front sight now prevented the gun from fitting in its holster. They demanded to see the targets, which I provided, only for them to declare they were right and I "didn't know what I was doing." I suggested using a bore laser to demonstrate the issue, but they scoffed, calling them "useless." When I pressed them on their incorrect assumption about higher front sights, they initially agreed to shoot the gun, only to immediately backtrack, stating they were a "custom gun shop" and "not Walmart," implying their word was gospel. At this point, I simply asked for a $50 refund for the sight they had installed. They flatly refused. I then asked where they sourced the sight, and they claimed Dawson Precision. With them listening, I immediately called Dawson Precision and described the scenario. The "expert" at Dawson Precision confirmed exactly what I knew to be true: "if you want to lower your rear sight, you also need to lower your front sights." The manager at JoJo's became visibly enraged, telling me to "hang up." They then took my gun into the back, returning minutes later with the sight removed. I was then told I had "learned something" and that I "should not come back." I left, completely without a refund of any kind. I subsequently ordered my own front sight, a .180" – the standard for a 1911, and roughly half the height of the .320" monstrosity they had installed. Back at the range, the gun was easily sighted in with no issues. JoJo's Gunworks demonstrates a shocking lack of technical proficiency, particularly concerning basic sight mechanics. Their customer service is not just poor, it's openly hostile and demeaning. Do yourself a favor and take your business elsewhere. This establishment is not only incompetent but also deeply disrespectful to...
Read moreAfter reading high reviews online, I called Jojo’s to ask if they could install new sights and a grip for me. I spoke to a really nice guy who told me "Yeah sure, bring it on down. We do that all the time". I went to the store the following weekend, only I did not get to interact with the nice gentlemen I spoke with on the phone, I was assisted by the owner. I explained that I needed help putting on a grip. He took the gun to the back to work on it. After a couple of minutes he came back out and began complaining about how he "doesn't like" this type of grip. This went on for probably 15 minutes. At one point he berated me like a child on whether or not I even read the instructions. He would go into the back to work on it, then come back out to the front every few minutes to complain about it. I finally asked him for his recommendation for an alternative since he clearly did not like this product. His response with a sarcastic chuckle - "Buy a bigger gun". As he said that, I looked to my right and hanging there was the same exact grip that I brought in.... He was finally able to get the grip on, but didn't tell me how he did. He told me that he would charge me for putting on the sights and for the "aggravation" of putting the grip on. The only positive aspect from this experience was the girl behind the counter. She talked to me about an alternative option to my grip, and was very pleasant, knowledgeable, and helpful. The owner however made me feel extremely unwelcome. The few negative comments on Google reviews definitely resonated with my experience. Do not recommend Jojo’s, especially for women looking for a gun shop. I will not be doing business there...
Read moreThe owner has terrible customer service. I felt like I was brushed off when I stepped foot into JoJo’s. I paid for services before any work was done. Shortly after I paid, I decided I was going to hold off on one of the services. The owner mentioned he’d give me a check for the remaining amount once I picked up the upper.
About a week later I picked up my upper. The owner initially paid me in cash. I noticed he still owned me $20. I brought it to his attention and he immediately got an attitude. He mentioned something along the lines of, “You’re really going to give me a hard time over a few dollars.” I told him, “It’s the principle.” He mentioned I owed taxes. Even with taxes, he still owed me $15. He was just pulling nonsense out of his behind. Anyways that’s beside the point. If you owe someone money, pay them. It doesn’t matter how much or how little.
He threatened to give me store credit because he was tired of going back and forth (his pride was hurting). I asked him for a check reimbursement, as he promised when I initially dropped off my upper (To be fair, there is a sign that mentions no reimbursements…all sales are final. However, he told me he would give me a check. It’s important to be a man of your word, especially as a business owner!). He eventually gave me my check.
It’s safe to say, I don’t recommend. Hopefully the owner does better...
