I've been going to Dragon's Keep for years. It's unfortunate to see some of their practices degrade when it comes to either customer service, or taking advantage of a new and popular product.
Overcharges for collectors boosters of magic the gathering. Claims that his distributor is the one charging him more, but then goes on to excuse it additionally with "but other stores don't have them" essentially saying he can charge whatever he wants, and because he does, he's not selling as many as other stores. Everything else they sell is fair price which is a sign that their distributor isn't in the habit of raising prices, this is obviously targeted price gouging on a popular product, and really isn't that hard to find; contrary to what the store owner says. I'll just save $5-$15 by going to another store. Even if it's true that the vendor is only raising prices on these single products, I think it's then a sign to change your distributor, because they are having a negative impact on your business.
If you call in asking to see if they have a certain card that would be in the display case (easy to find) they won't even bother checking, telling you to come in and look yourself. It's very frustrating when you're looking for a card that sells for $40+ which would be easy money for the store, but they care so little about my business. I wouldn't want to travel to the store to look myself if it was a 10+ mile drive, just to find nothing when a little customer service could go such a long way. Don't get me wrong, if you asked them to look for a card that was much cheaper, and most likely in an unorganized binder, I wouldn't expect them to help me in that regard. That would take way more time than it's worth. But to simply walk up to the display case and look at the 30+ cards that are very easy to see at the same time? Come on...
This has a domino effect; word of mouth gets around, and slowly you lose customers over something that your charging $5 more for our you're too lazy to do. It's a stain on the business' reputation. That's a loss of so much more than $5 per booster pack. And honestly, the excuses are obvious lies or signs of not caring; and that alone is enough to lose my business.
It's very obvious that the store cares more about maximizing profits with the lowest amount of effort possible. I do not suggest bringing your business here when there are other shops that have fairer prices, and much better customer service.
I would gladly bring my business in more frequently if these things could be resolved. It would also change my opinion, which is obviously very passionately expressed to those in the community.
Good selection on Warhammer at least, and prices most other things are fair there.
This isn't too bash the store, but are some of my honest critiques of the practices. I really hope they take this genuine feedback into consideration. I know I'm not the only who shares these concerns, either. They could have so many more customers if that was...

This is by far the favorite game store in Utah county for my family. It is a bit of a smaller store still getting started, but the owner and staff are nothing but friendly, helpful, and incredibly patient with my kidlets who can be a little overeager at times. There is almost always something running on the TV, and I have been asked on multiple occasions if it is ok for my kids to see or been happy and quick to change it if I've asked first. The store owner has a wonderful report with the customers, and I have seen him firsthand working with newer employees to help them develop into better customer-facing staff.
While there are definitely larger stores with more inventory in the valley, this is definitely the one that is the most (if not the only one) focused on being a kid-friendly environment. As part of the Dragon's Keep chain, they've always been happy to call around to their other stores to check on something they may not have in stock at this store and if found either have the other store hold it for you or do a store-to-store transfer. And they're always happy to do a special order whenever...
Read moreTook my 3 & 4 year old kids in to check out “the dragon store” that we’re always passing. Didn’t know what to expect but had an amazing experience! They were in the middle of judging an art contest of painted figurines and the boys had so many questions and ideas which the employees were more than happy to engage! They were so patient and one of them talked about his own kids’ entries with my son then helped us find the stuff to make our own creations. The guy who rang us up listened with very sincere interest to my four year old’s plans to make his robot a dragon master to set a trap for someone… I can’t even remember what he was saying because I was watching the employees face light up at the imaginative story and it was the highlight of my kid’s day. We now love this...
