Marshalls — Local services in Springettsbury Township

This store has friendly staff, affordable prices, and a great selection. This is where the positive comments ends.

Normally, I don’t post negative reviews but I think I need to provide a “buyer beware” warning for this company. On Saturday, August 26, 2023, I noticed that I was charged sales tax on an 8-pack of black dress socks that I bought that day. Pennsylvania is a tax-exempt state for clothing, so I was baffled why I was charged such a tax. I initially thought it was because my sock were made of a material that was taxed in PA. Therefore, I found out for myself earlier this morning and found out the reason why was because “we have to charge sales tax in PA but people have been driving to MD to shop because that state doesn’t charge sales tax on clothing..” I know for a fact that the opposite is true. The clerk was apologetic with my disappointment so I believe from my observations that Marshall’s and TJ Maxx use shady business tactics such as sneakily putting sales tax on things that shouldn’t be taxed. I know it’s doubtful I’ll be returning anytime soon.

Be careful with what you buy at Marshall’s/TJ Maxx; that deal may have a little “surcharge” in Pa. Luckily my tax was roughly the cost of adding a flavor syrup to a coffee...

I personally do not care for this Marshalls. It's cluttered and a poor shopping layout. It's way overkill with Covid restrictions. It's almost June and their dressing rooms are still not open. They expect you to buy clothes take them home, try them on and bring them back for a return if you don't like them. The front doors are guarded by staff in purple gloves and the registers are fully barricaded in white plastic walls and plexiglass. Other stores (like Target and American Eagle) are handling Covid safety in a much less invasive way. Might help if the hasmat staff at least greated you with a friendly hello, smile or a wave. It gives me anxiety shopping in this store even prior to all this. Hopefully this review finds management and they can make some much needed improvements to this...

Fun to stop by here and there to view at any new arrivals that’ll make me feel like spending to add into the home!

1/12/2023 Update: I gave one star due to visiting this store twice to notice they don’t have new arrivals where they usually do every week whenever I stopped by. I guess it’s either they needed time for the items to be purchased from patrons before they add more onto the shelves or if it’s just me. This used to be my top main spot to shop. Now, I won’t be returning anytime soon....
