Die Hard Games — Local services in Springfield

2/5 stars. Heard about this shop from a few people in town prior to seeing the shop for myself, they weren’t lying when they said that Die Hard Games isn’t exactly friendly toward newer faces. Only a small number of players show up to the shop for their routine commander sessions, a total of 2 tables with 4 players per pod were available. The elderly gentleman running the shop seemed nice at first, but kept giving me this weird side-eye focus for the duration of my stay. It made me feel pretty uncomfortable. The group I sat to play with were friendly enough during pre-game conversation, but it definitely seemed like they were focusing their aggression toward me and one other player who mentioned that he was new to playing Magic the Gathering. I don’t think I would recommend playing at this game shop, unless the other two in town were closed or otherwise unavailable for MTG...

As a female, feminine presenting, I was uncomfortable each time I went here. TBH, I had hoped that things would go well because of all the positive reviews but alas, its not welcoming. Women in nerd areas already know we have to take "the test" where we basically have to validate our existence in the area. My favorite is when its a pop quiz about the thing I came in for /s. Even if we get past The Test, its was uncomfortable. It immediately felt tense, I absolutely caught people giving me the stink eye from my peripheral vision, etc. Maybe its because I'm both female and non-binary looking so I hit both of the fragile buttons or something but I guess I will have to try again at another game store and continue on my quest for a game store that isnt unwelcoming and/or outright...

Sorry Travis you were double charged but you brought 2 items up to the counter and decided you didn't need the second item without telling me. The board games were 25% off so you probably got 2 different prices one with the discount and one without the discount. Either way you would of gotten it with the 25% off(best price in town). You probably didn't here the discount oh well. Sorry about the cardboard but when you get a massive amount of orders in its got to go somewhere. It was later cleaned up. Sorry not sorry about talking about a video GAME. I didn't start the conversation about video games but we talk about games in general. PSSS...even games I don't carry.
