Monster Pawn Springfield Inc — Local services in Springfield

In my opinion Nick is not helpful one bit. He has been shirt and rude to me. I am upping the stars based on the owner’s response. I believe the owner cares but clearly some of his employees care about other things. Here is my original review outlining my experience with Nick (the older man described below).

I brought in a gently used product with a retail value of between $170-150 new. They did a very quick search of the item on eBay. They had the product manual in hand and told me that the best price on eBay was $38. Then said people were selling it for $11. They offered me $10. They said they had received a “much cooler remote with way more functions just a bit ago for $10”. The man that said that didn’t even look at the remote. I searched it on my own and found my exact model type selling for between 175-138 for new and “used” on eBay not even a minute after leaving the store. I decided to not even both going back in to show them. They have done me wrong in the past and this was their second chance. I would not recommend you go to this store. In my opinion they are crooked dealers looking for someone in extreme need so they can undercut them on price. I say this because I also sold a typewriter to them last year. It was in great working condition, it had a solid metal typing desk and I even offered spare ink. The old man helping me said it was in great condition but he would lose out big time if he bought it for anything more than $50. I explained that I had lost my job and needed the money for food, I told him I didn’t really want to even have to sell it but I needed money to feed myself. He kept pushing and pushing and wasting my time. Asking me condescending questions like, who died that I got this from. He also said several time you don’t even know how this thing works do you? He assumed that I just had found this item thinking it had no value. In my opinion he acted as if because of my age I had zero idea how to clean/operate the typewriter. He was very rude in his tone.I told him that I’d throw in the desk and ink for $150 as it is worth approximately 350 on eBay he would be making a $200 profit. They were the only one in town to make an offer and so I decided that I would have to take whatever I could get. He said the best he could possibly do is $70 because “I’m going to eat a lot of profit in shipping it alone”. I reluctantly agreed and he pulled out a massive stack of bills then asked me if I had change for a $20... I said no man that’s why I’m here. He said oh ok well fine I guess I can do $80. I explained that I loved my typewriter but it was the most valuable thing I owned that I could survive without and that it meant a lot to me. I said you know you’re getting a helluva deal and that if I had any other choice I wouldn’t be selling it so cheaply. He said oh well I guess I can tell you now I’m not planning on selling this I’m going to give it to a suicidal friend and I didn’t want to have to pay full price. He kept following me outside. He told me about how he was taking care of this girl and he was going to get major brownie points for this. I wanted to tell him what he could do with those brownie points, but took the high road and assumed it was just bad day with them. I did not make the $10 deal today because I am in a much better position than I was in. I wanted to test their morality. They failed hard. Offering 10 for a product they knew was worth $150. Boo in my opinion shady businesses like this should have much more regulation to prevent scummy people from preying on...

All the staff have worked with me numerous times on buying and selling items and one thing many people should know is that Monster Pawn works HARD to compete for your business.

Hands down they have the best selection and prices on coins and bullion with new inventory on a regular basis.

The staff at Monster Pawn go above and beyond to ensure that they are researching and offering the highest price for any item ranging from a DVD, small piece of jewelry or even a large item such as a commercial sever. The manager is personable, genuine and honest which can be hard to come by in this type of brick and mortar retail environment. He manages his employees and store in a fair and equal environment that is both friendly and welcoming. They continue to strive to rank among the highest of strongest customer service skills in the area.
