I usually won't bring my daughter with me into a liquor store but we just finished a lovely dinner at nearby Rangs and saw an opportunity to not show up empty handed to a social gathering xmass eve. I couldn't believe there wasn't a line to make a purchase. Small selection, but I found something and my daughter and I approached the register. That's when it got weird. The employee behind the counter aggressively asked my daughter where her mother was. Instead of reacting I just kind of went along, let my daughter answer and I confirmed. The clerk was not interested in my answer so much as my daughters and I wonder if it piqued her interest that we are multi racial and my daughter and I didn't match. In any case, I paid and we left. As we did, the clerk insisted that my daughter wish her mother a Merry Christmas as well. I wish I clapped back to let her know that we don't even celebrate xmass. We're Jewish.
