I am writing this review because of the way i was treated rudely by the manager named Sue at the shop. I was patiently waiting for the nice older ladies working on the cash register because they couldn’t figure out how to use the register using my debit/ credit card for which i prefer to use credit instead of using my pin number for security purposes. When finally it was taking them so long to tender the amount, they called the rude manager for help. By the way, i’ve been a customer for so many years since Tui was there and i was never ever treated badly by any single women volunteers there. I have high respect for them because i myself do volunteer works too. So when the manager came and was working on it, she wants me to enter my pin number which i refuse and instead followed the prompt by skipping to use my pin number. And voila, the credit card went through. And this said manager told me that i was only suppose to enter my pin and not press anything because i might break the system of the register! She made me feel that it was my fault that they weren’t able to figure it out. She even told me that the bank tells them on what card to accept. I reiterated it to her that i never encountered any problems with my said card. She said that the system was changed last July but I told her that i was there only a week ago and my debit/ credit card went through. I was really really upset with the way i was treated by this manager Sue. I hope her term as a manager ends soon. Im sorry., But she is one Very...
Read moreClean store and amazing prices, but it was clearly intended to be a women’s thrift shop. Most of the clothing-oriented items are designed for women, and the men’s clothing selection is relegated to the back and is only one sparse shelf. That said, still amazing prices. There was also a book section, of which I purchased six books for seven dollars. They’re very good books too, I must say.
I went with my sister, who purchased about 50 dollars of summer and winter clothing, none blemished or torn. We looked up the original prices online and found we saved about 95% on clothing.
The older women manning the registers were unorganized, tacit, and dismissive, but not overtly rude or mean. It’s no five star can do attitude, but in no way did I ever feel offended. There was a moment in time where a mother and her children came in and they gave them the stink eye, but personally I believe it was because they were horsing around the $300 porcelain set a little too roughly for comfort.
Overall, I’m giving this five stars, solely because I don’t believe there’s a single other thrift store in the entirety of the Bay Area where you can get such quality brand clothing at such a low price. It also helps my conscience that this is a complete non-profit that gives their entire net gain to, currently, a women’s education scholarship program. Definitely five thumbs up. Tell your friends! Or don’t and snag that L.L bean sweater and Levi Jeans combo for 8...
Read moreOnce again I felt disrespected/harassed shopping here, by "the manager" (a rude Hispanic woman with an accent) and by staff. The second time coming to this shop I did not have any cash in my wallet but was willing to pay with my card. The manager said are sure you don't have any cash? I said "no sorry", I already was searching for cash or coins in my wallet but did not see any...she saw me searching but asked again, "are you sure you don't have cash...?" I laughed and reopened my wallet and coin zipper and showed her and the staff, she looked over into my wallet... I thought that was so RUDE & DISRESPECTFUL. Third time at this store, I was looking at jewelry and the ladys just stand there staring/waiting right next to you like you are going to steal $10 jewelry... no understanding of personal space! It made me feel anxious and pressured, I would call this feeling harassment. The manager gave a very off putting "hi" and accused me of trying on the jewelry that I was clearing JUST LOOKING at. Every time I have shopped here I regret my purchases because of the clinging/overbearing women. I was pressured to by $40 worth of stuff and when I get home I felt like it wasn't even worth it and I couldn't make clear decisions in the store because of the volunteers and how they act. For these reasons I will not shop...
