I've been a customer for many years, and to say this place has gone downhill is an understatement! I've done both, consigned and shopped there and have raved to many about this store. The first issue I had was a few months ago when I consigned. When I went to pick up my check they showed the bin of merchandise they were going to buy and I noticed the shoes I had brought were still over on their sorting table with someone else's clothing. I asked the cashier if I was being paid for my shoes and she couldn't answer the question. It took nearly 5 minutes for staff to figure out that I "was paid for the shoes". However, you're not given an itemized receipt, so was I really? Reluctantly, I've consigned with them again over the last few months and dropping my stuff off staff were unorganized. I've heard staff ask each which items go with which pile, meaning they are mixing up consigners items. I've paid lots of money for our children's clothing, and since they're name brand high quality items, I don't appreciate the uncertainty of the staff's ability to keep my items separate from the next consigners. The last straw was on Monday. My husband called to see if they were open since it was a a holiday. We were planning on dropping items off to be consigned so the staff member told my husband they accepted items until 3 PM. We loaded the 3 bins up and drove the 45 minutes it takes to get there only to find out they were no longer taking items because they met their "quota" for the day.? The staff member told me that they closed at 4, which the staff member did not tell my husband on the phone, and since we were there by 3 as the staff informed us, they should have taken our clothing. Typically we receive notifications via text that they are not taking any other drop offs, so why today was any different I'm not sure. We would not have wasted our time and gas. The staff member told me that "They assumed people would know they closed at 4". We called, and never received a text message, but should assume? The staff member gave me the option to drop my clothing off, and come back for it the following day. So I'm expected to drive a total of 3 hours? Knowing the staff can't handle being organized while your clothes are there for an hour, there was no way I was letting my items be left there overnight. My husband asked to speak to a manager, she said the staff member meant on the phone that we could drop the items off and pick up the next day. That is obliviously a little different then, "Yes, we take items up until 3 PM." I reached out via Facebook asking for a manager to contact me and 2 days later I have heard nothing but "we're closed for the evening, but we'll have a manager reach out to you".
Lastly, their infant clothes are overpriced. I have made out well for my daughter, but recently having a baby and checking in the infant boys section finding out that his stuff was more expensive than hers. She's in a size 10, and their newborn stuff (Carters especially) is overpriced. They are selling for at least $4.50 when so many times you can get the items new at Carters for $8.
Hopefully they can get this store turned around. Seems like mostly...
Read moreREVISED: Though I hated my first experience in the store, I liked my experience with the manager and how she resolved it. I will give Once Upon a Child another chance because of her.
I spoke with the manager, Emily, and she was wonderful to speak with and responded quickly to my review. She was completely understanding of why I felt the way I did after my first experience. I learned more about their process and I was also able to express my concerns as a first time customer. I think we both learned from this experience. I feel like the situation is resolved and my feeling of frustration is gone.
Though the situation happened as it did and mistakes were made, I am at peace with the fact my concerns were acknowledged and the manager did everything she could to make things right. I really appreciate our conversation and I do understand there are just off days for all of us.
Thank you, Emily, for taking the time to go over everything. I now know the steps I can take as a seller to ensure my peace of mind. For example, I know now that I can request an itemized list for the potential purchase and I can request my outfit sets to not get pulled apart.
ORIGINAL COMMENT: Selling items there is not worth the gas money, or effort. My stuff came back completely tossed around and I truly don't know what they took because things weren't where I placed them in boxes/ tuberware containers when I brought them in. I had everything by size, girl/ boy, clean, organized, etc. A box I gave them was not returned to me, or paid for. I was so frustrated with the situation, I will call it a donation, and be thankful for what I did get.
It made me uncomfortable that they had to look around to find what I brought in order to return the items they didn't purchase. Very disorganized and bad way to do business. I was shown a blue tub of what they purchased, it was so random and difficult to see what was purchased. When I began to look through the items purchased, the lady asked me not to mess them up.
Ultimately, I would have preferred to stay with my items while they went through them. I was told there would be a list of what they purchased when I brought the items in, but there wasn't one given to me. I had brand new, name brand, clothes and was paid about one dollar each for the items they chose based on the number of items and the amount paid out. It was my first time trying it out and it was bad experience.
Worse, when I got home to actually see my returned items, they took apart outfits, BRAND NEW, Carters! They took the tops and left the bottoms!!! It will be difficult to sell them now, or donate them even. My stuff is A...
Read moreThis place use to be great, now it is the worst. The employees are the absolute rudest, and disrespectful. I was in the other day and their system crashed. They were unable to take card. I didn't have an option of running to an ATM for a credit card, and had no cash. They took my name and number, set my stuff aside and said I WOULD BE CALLED AS SOON AS THE SYSTEM WAS BACK UP so I could come get my things. Well 2 days later... I called asking if the system was up. She said yes. I asked why I never got a call and she said she doesn't know about that but I have today only to come pick up my stuff. I told them I can not come pick it up in less than an hour. I am atleast 45 min away to begin with and it wasnt my fault the system crashed. I asked to speak to a manager, a "shift leader" got on the phone rudely. I explained again that I NEVER was called and told your system was up but i can not get there until thos weekend due to my work schedule and they close by 8pm. She responded with it wasn't her fault either that the system crashed and that is the rules. I dont understand how their system crashed allowing me to not pay their employee took my name and number and said they would call as soon as the system was up and working, I never got a call and now they returned my stuff to the floor. Honestly, with the lack of choices for clothes anymore, the dirtiness of the facility and stains and holes on clothes for sale (very poor quality unlike years ago) amd then how rude and ignorant the staff is. I don't understand why they are like this, they really ruined something good. I think that will be the last time I ever shop with them. If I could give zero stars I would. Their reviews for the past months show how bad they have become... and...
