Had my first sugaring experience on 4/12/19 with Mailette at the Cincinnati Love Sugaring location in Hyde Park. I have had Brazilian waxes on a consistent basis years prior but had never tried sugaring.
When I arrived at the location (fairly easy to find with GPS), I wasn't quite sure where to park but found parking on the side street (location is in a corner block building). Address number located on the door is visible and the door notes that they are located up the stairs. *Note - if you need to use the restroom beforehand, it is straight in front of you when you walk in the door, kind of under the stairs before going up to the LS area. I was greeted by 3 ladies in a very hip/modern room. First impression was pleasant and the space was clean. Mailette showed me to the room and I was offered a coat hook, a bin to use for my belongings if I wanted. I was also offered a Love my Muff wipe, which I really liked, as I am one of those girls that likes to wipe down my bits regardless of the reason someone is going to see me. And a towel to cover up with once I was on the table. Mailette was receptive when I told her I was a bit nervous since it had been so long since having a Brazilian wax (about 3/4 yrs or so). She was very kind and explained the difference between the two techniques and how she applies the sugar substance and what it looks like. And I was on my way to my first sugaring. Not going to lie, it was still painful. I contribute half of that to my being nervous and half to not having the tolerance built up like I had previously with waxing. After the first couple of flicks and removal, Mailette checked in with me to see how I was doing, I told her to just keep small talking with me and all would be well - and that she did. We had small talk convo and she shared about starting the biz in CA and moving to Cincy. I have to say, she was very sweet and personable and I appreciated that she conversed back, as opposed to me just gabbing away. I was sugared and ready to go in about 30 mins (as their website states). Mailette offered a warm cloth to clean myself with if I felt sticky and balm to apply before I dressed. I checked out and was given an aftercare slip, which I found very helpful and took the advice given on it. I booked another appointment as well.
Several hours post sugar: I noted a bit of hair still in between certain bits/lips but could be because these may not had been as long, or thinner, I'm not real sure. (I should have mentioned previously that my hair length for removal was a 1/4 qtr inch and had been letting it go for 2 full weeks. I did not have any redness or skin irritation, not burning feeling, and I contribute that to the sugaring product and the care/technique of Mailette.
2 days post sugar: Exfoliated in shower and used astringent like recommended on aftercare slip. Shower time cut by 10 mins not shaving and nothing but admiration for not having to deal with stubble!
Download the app - prices, info, a few videos to watch, easy to schedule appointments. Earn points to get a free Brazilian after your 4th paid one! (In my opinion, this is a really good deal, and much more reasonable/affordable than what EW offers).

Read moreI’ve never had such a horrible lash lift in my life. Do not go here for a lash lift!!! I called Sweet Alchemy approximately 1 hour after my appointment ended asking if the product they used was expired, because not having lifted lashes after a lash lift service has never happened to me. But then again, I’ve also never been here before…I decided to try this place bc I’m eloping in a few days and wanted to get my lashes lifted and tinted for the ceremony and pictures. The girl I normally go to (elsewhere) wasn’t available during the time I needed so I unfortunately tried Sweet Alchemy.
Emma was very very nice during the appointment but my lashes are not at all lifted and the tint isn’t as dark as it should be. The picture speaks for itself honestly. I’m not sure how they thought it was okay for me to leave without any lift or why they didn’t say anything. I called about an hour after my appointment ended, after the shock wore off and I had fully processed that $100 just went down the drain. They confirmed the product was not expired and explained that the manager would reach out to me.
I initially rated two stars bc Emma was super friendly and I felt bad giving negative and public feedback as she is kind and newer to the field, however, once the manager reached out to me I updated my review to 1 Star. I wish zero stars was an option.
The manager reached out to me via email about 24 hours later to offer a complimentary corrective service within the next few days. (Even though that is damaging? No, I don’t want my lashes to fall off, Taryn). In the paragraph prior to this offer, however, she explained that she presumed I went elsewhere to get my lashes done immediately before or after? She explained that getting lashes done within a few days of each other is not good for your lashes (peep the email where she offered to correct mine before my elopement at the end of this week) and blamed me for the lift not turning out right! LOL TARYN. Learn how to communicate with clients, Taryn. Start by not presuming they are at fault for your bad service.
My horrible experience inspired me to write a good review for my normal lash girl- I highly recommend Sarah at Trulie Brows in Hyde Park not in any way affiliated with this place. Sarah is amazing, super sweet and does the best job ever. The table you lay on at Sarah’s is also much more comfortable with a pillow and she sends you home with a little baggy of castor...
Read moreI booked my very first Brazilian wax with The Sweet Alchemy. I was so nervous -- which of course I would be, you know?! It's a Brazilian! I was nervous for many reasons but really the main reason was because I'm a big woman. I would be considered on the larger end of the plus sized spectrum, for context. I've wanted to start getting Brazilian waxes for ever now, but was so scared of being judged or treated differently by the esthetician because of my size.
I decided to book with The Sweet Alchemy after looking over different waxing salons for days trying to find one that I felt would have the highest chance of being inclusive. The Sweet Alchemy came back up on my radar time and time again -- so I finally decided to pull the trigger and book.
I actually live around forty minutes away from the salon, so I knew it was going to be a little bit of a drive. But I knew if I had a positive experience, that I'd have NO problem coming back again and again in the future.
Now, with all of that out of the way? I have to say I am so, SO SOOO happy I went to The Sweet Alchemy!
Olivia did my wax and she was so sweet and super professional!! She went above and beyond with keeping me comfortable all throughout the process. My size was not treated as an inconvenience at any part in my session with her, either. It was as if I was any one else. As a larger plus sized woman, that alone meant the WORLD to me.
The salon was so cozy and inviting too! The warm lighting and overall atmosphere 100% aided in me already feeling more comfortable about my wax, before it even started.
I just can't thank Olivia and The Sweet Alchemy enough for making my very first Brazilian wax such a positive experience. I will definitely be coming back for maintenance. (& to try other services, too!)
I will also be recommending The Sweet Alchemy to! every! one! If you're reading this and you're on the fence about booking with them, do it. You will NOT...
