Today was the final weigh in day at Fuel Fitness Boot Camp Community for the six week boot camp challenge. I'm happy to say that I lost a total of 12 pounds in six weeks and I will continue on my fitness journey for life. It's not finished with me and frankly, it will be something I'll work on for-eva. I've been on the yo-yo train since I was a freshmen in college - I can clearly see my patterns and know what works and what doesn't work for me. And I've lost and gained the same 20 pounds for the past three years - yikes. Now, the trick is sprinkling fun food experiences in with the usual weekly menu. What does me in is bread, cheese, alcohol and crappy relationships - imagine that! All things food related that anyone would be crazy not to want - like daily sometimes. But, I get instant bloat. No joke, I can and have gained 13 pounds in one weekend eating and drinking that stuff - and it takes weeks to get it back off.
As the owner of Fuel Fit and I were talking after my weight in I shared with him what I used to say to my weight loss clients back in the day: when you go to the store to buy dog food, pick up a back that weighs what you just lost and walk around with that for a bit! That'll bring perspective.
The irony of choosing this journey is that life has a way of throwing challenges you just don't anticipate along the way, but everybody knows it's going to rain, we just haven't gotten really good at predicting when and how much. Thankfully, even with a knee that's decided to act up, a sprained ankle and sickness along the way, I remained committed. The staff at Fuel was fantastic at following up every week to check on me - and I appreciated that. Their team of trainers are fun, energetic and motivating, and no they don't just do bootie camps, they also have yoga - yay for yoga!
If you're ready to take your life back and thrive, I encourage you to do the work. Dive in - no it's not always going to be perfect or meet your expectations, but progress is better than a pitiful version of yourself. #bettertobesorethansick #gratefulforhealing #bootiecampsrock...
Read moreI really wanted to like this small gym but there were two many cons to continue my membership. I'll start with what I did like.
Pros: Not a lot of members, so it's never crowded even during peak hours. It's in an area close to me where there aren't other gyms. You have 24 hour access with your key card.
Cons: The gym is dirty. It really needs a deep clean. There are only unmarked bottles of a blue liquid and marked window cleaner bottle to "disinfect" equipment. I want to give the benefit of the doubt that they are not putting window cleaner in the unmarked bottles but I'm afraid it looks that way. There are only washcloths that are used by everyone that are soaked and feel like you're making things dirtier than cleaner. There is dirt on most equipment and much of the equipment is poorly maintained. They creak, wobble, rub, and are missing parts. There is a press machine that is missing the knob to adjust the shoulder height and has been that way for at least two months. None of the cycling bikes having working distance trackers. Several of the ellipticals wobble or are audibly creating friction from lack of maintenance. Treadmills are the same. Some don't incline or the screens are faulty. I've brought a couple things up to management and it was mostly taken care of, however I find it disturbing that routine safety checks of the equipment are not done and it takes customers bringing it up to get fixed. Overall, it just feels unsafe, un clean, and poorly taken care of. It's just not worth the price for how little care is taken to keep the gym looking and...
Read moreEdit below the original: I would rate no stars but that’s not an option and I don’t recommend going here and to take your money elsewhere. Here is why I say this: I had a 30 minute free personal training appointment with a trainer, and when I showed up, the man who let me in said no one was here and to wait. I waited for the 30 minutes I was supposed have the appointment for. No one showed up, no one bothered to check on me if I needed anything, no one was even stationed at the front desk. The same guy that had told me to wait had left and said that they hope someone shows up. I was coming here in hopes to see if this gym was going to work for me since it was so close to home. Looks like I wont be and will be taking my money and time elsewhere. Seems if you’re not a member already the company doesn’t care about you. I am very disappointed with the professionalism and the company for not having a substitute trainer or even calling to cancel or reschedule.
Edit: The general manager called and explained to me the reason why no one was there for my appointment. It was due to a scheduling conflict with an old system they didn't know existed since the ownership changed in January. Apparently, the schedule I had put in didn't show up in an email, so they didn't know I was coming. If they had, they would've called me hours prior to the appointment and would've been waiting on me. I appreciate the call and explanation from the GM and I understand that it wasn't entirely their fault, but it will still take some time for me to see if I...
