I used to go to this place all the time. No one bothered me, and I mostly kept to myself or played pool with random people. I’ve been going on and off, and aside from one incident where some random guy said, “Mexicans have no morals,” it was usually a fine experience. The main bartender with the handlebar mustache has always been kind of a jerk, but tolerable. He was quick to jump to conclusions during some of our conversations, but for the most part, we got along okay.

Now, here’s what happened recently. I was talking to a guy about his experience in Vietnam, and the bartender was part of the conversation. We were all having a good time when I suddenly felt someone staring at me. I looked across the bar and saw a man giving me a mean, squinty look. I kept staring, and we locked eyes, but he wouldn’t look away.

I pointed him out to the guys and said, “This man is mad dogging me.” They looked, and the guy got uncomfortable and moved further down the bar. The bartender got furious and said, “Well, it’s rude to point.” I replied, “Isn’t it rude to stare?” He said I didn’t know why the man was staring , maybe he thought I was pretty This definitely wasn’t the case, but I’m open-minded.

I told him it didn’t matter if the man thought I was pretty or not; he shouldn’t be staring at me like that. It felt threatening. At that point, the bartender got really mad, probably because he felt challenged by me. He said, “You know you’re too drunk, I’m cutting you off,” and walked away.

To be clear, I had only had three drinks. I was about to leave because I had no more cash and the atm wasn't working with my card He told me to stay and gave me a free beer on the house 10 minutes prior to the situation. I clearly wasn’t drunk after just a 3 Bud Lights. I believe he did this as a way to take back control because I wasn’t backing down.

He tries to belittle people with weird jabs. He is clearly unhappy and has openly expressed marital problems, so maybe that’s why he’s so grumpy.

I lost it at that point , not because he cut me off, but because he was trying to assert power over me. I did something I’m not proud of and cussed him out as I walked out the door.

There is another bartender there who is super cool, and his gf comes in and is a kind soul. You can have a good time here just avoid the handle bar...

The bartender Tawna and Jacob..are one complete RUDE Wreaking Crue..SPUN as they are you'll still have to wait long for a drink..Drinks take long to receive.. Service is very Slow and the Bartenders are moody and non friendly..I Feel So BAD..for the Customers and Especially...Veterans have to Deal with Such poor service...And Yes...they are volunteers..but with attitudes...that are displayed...they should just...

Tehachapi VFW is the best! We bring in food orders from various places, then eat their buying drinks and hanging out with our vets. Best bartenders, best location, everyone is welcoming, its like "Cheers!" All political parts are welcomed. We may disagree, but we dont hate on eachother. Usually, political talks are numb and good music or good sports are on TV. Free WIFI! ...
