Devereaux Jewelers — Local services in Temple

I took two rings in for resizing and repair. The owner seemed especially annoyed with me. I later read Google and Yelp reviews for his shop and found that this behavior is common.

I went in a few weeks later to pick up my finished items. He again seemed irritated with my presence. He stated the total cost in one digit figures then dashed away to run my card. I quickly realized that this was considerably more than I had expected. To verify, I restated the price he was saying in the actual dollar amount. If that’s the price, that's the price and I’ll pay it. However, his response and explanation was beyond rude.

When asked to sign my receipt, I noticed that the price he’d just stated had increased. I questioned this. Again his response was unnecessarily curt, informing me that there is always an upcharge when using a credit card. I’m sure there’s probably some sort of sign in his shop nailed to the wall amongst all the other signs that states this.

I signed the receipt and informed him that I would not be doing business with him again. His response, “Good!! Have a nice day!” I told him, “This is why you get bad reviews.” He arrogantly responded, “Yes, I know! Thank you!”

I’m still reeling over being treated in such a disrespectful manner. If you are new to our sweet community, please know this is not the norm for Temple’s small business owners.

I called this place on my way there because I REALLY needed my ring cut off of my finger. I had firefighters and a doctor tell me the ring needed to come off and I wanted a jewler to Be the ones to cut it off. Makes sense, right? I asked what time they closed and they told me 6, it's a 30 minute drive for me and I arrived at 5:49 (yes, it's close but NOT after closing time)..NO ONE was there. I was/still am furious. The reason I'm still so mad is because I CALLED and told them I was on my way there to get it cut off..yet they still decided to leave early. Maybe they have a legit excuse as to why they left early, BUT if this review would let me post a picture of my finger (which literally is cut and bruised all the way around because my ring was so tight) you would understand why I am so mad. For starters, I called to see if my repaired jewelry was ready since I had not received a call, and it was taking longer than I was told. I was informed that it was overlooked and had been ready for a little while. Also, I was quoted a price when I dropped my jewelry off and when I went to pick it up, I was told a price of around $50 more, I asked why more? He said that is what we agreed on, and I said no it wasn’t. I probably wouldn’t have had it repaired there if that was the case. When I dropped my jewelry off, the quote WAS NOT down in front of me, just verbally told to me, but he showed me the envelope the jewelry was placed in, and he had written on it a different price than he told me, and proceeded to tell me I was mistaken.
