Of all the comic stores in the Denver metro area, this is the only one that is a true “Mom and Pop” shop. “JNJ” stands for Jamie and James. Jamie, the friendly Mom, runs the shop, greeting new customers and taking care of her regulars. James, the Pop, comes to the store after work and has done most of the clever and careful organizing of their stock. James has made some interesting choices there. Even with the back issues! For the most part, they are collected into packs that offer complete storylines or art runs. There are very few individual back issues on sale - in comic-shop parlance, few “singles.” Jamie said that James does have many other comics, not on the floor, that he can check to fulfill customer or online requests. There are also single back issues available in the dollar boxes. It is a very diverse and interesting mix of comics for just a dollar each. A lot of thought and care has been taken in the selections - which is something you don’t usually see with the dollar bins! There is a good range of new and near-new comics, and a rich collection of trade paperbacks with some hardcovers. Again, I found some books I just haven’t seen anywhere else. As with the dollar comics, there is clearly a discernment you don’t always find in other stores. It’s idiosyncratic, but with the idiosyncrasies of a true fan. I like it. “JNJ” is a shop for comics AND games, and gaming takes up a lot of space in the store. There are gaming books and booklets, gaming statues and figures, and even a D & D pinball machine. There is a shelf of old board games, too. Best of all, there’s a back room for gaming. When I visited, a jovial adult was teaching a happy and energetic group of young teens about a role-playing game. It seemed like they were having a great time. Needless to say, this store is VERY kid-friendly. Parents and their kids stopped in when I was there, obviously comfortable and welcome. Besides gaming, the store takes pride in sponsoring other kid-friendly events. There are also offerings from local artists on display. Let’s review. then. Mom and Pop, a unique approach to organizing and stocking the shelves (and boxes and such), kid-friendly, emphasis on gaming, happy teenagers in the back room. It's no wonder this shop was so busy during my visit!

I first visited on their grand opening on March 17th 2018. The store is split almost into two sections with the front half being tabletop/board games (and some DnD/graphic novels) with the back half having new comics on the wall, bundled comics on shelves, and 6 or so long boxes of 1$ back issues. The owners were very nice and helpful. The owner has over 20,000 books sourced from his personal collection and said through the coming days as they have the time to sort, price, and bring them to the shop. It will be fun to see this little shop evolve.
