This company chose the right name :-). The entire experience was professional. Ryan was very communicative throughout the process. From the site visit to the removal. PBL left the site as neat as possible after the extraction and they've said that if anything pops up in the spring they'll come and get it. The removal crew was also very professional and considerate of our small garden. The grove was in a very tight spot between a structure, a pine tree and a creeping juniper. There was no damage and they even pulled back the creeping juniper and braced it with stones to keep it out of the way. I wish all contractors could be this professional.
Read on if you are thinking of planting bamboo and would like to hear about our experience. For 15 years we enjoyed the beauty of our bamboo and the complete camouflage of a SIGNIFICANT eyesore it provided but knowing what I know today, I would have planted a tree :-).
As we did, install a high quality rhizome barrier to the proper depth and of the proper thickness or you'll be very, very sorry.
Place the bamboo in a spot where a small excavator can circle it to replace the rhizome barrier when it ages and begins to deteriorate or gives in to the pressure of the rhizomes and splits. Our garden is so small that we did not have this option and it caused issues.
Plan for annual maintenance. Our grove was small. About 15-18 feet long and about 5-6 feet wide in the center of the oval. It needed thinning and tidying above ground every spring. I did this myself and it became QUITE a job with special tools and eye protection required. In my mid 60s now I had to admit that even if we had the barrier replaced I could no longer manage the maintenance and I didn't want to look for PBL in 15 years to replace the barrier again when nearing 80 years of age :-). I wonder if we had the grove thinned below ground every few years by a professional (clumps of rhizomes removed) if that would have kept the pressure off the barrier and allowed it to last longer.
In my opinion, bamboo has advantages and is beautiful but requires annual maintenance, either done by the homeowner or a professional service like Professional Bamboo Landscapers. It's a commitment for as long as it's on site and not for the...
Read moreProfessional Bamboo Landscaping did amazing work for us last August. We had dense bamboo in our backyard that had been planted years ago by our neighbors, but slowly infested our yard. We were at wits end after having initially contracted another firm that was a disaster. Justin came in and did a thorough analysis of our yard, explaining the type of bamboo we had and how to best remove it. He patiently answered the many questions we had, and it was clear to us he was very experienced and knowledgeable.
He was also empathetic, understanding how frustrating and worrisome it can be to have bamboo growing uncontrollably on your property.
He gave us a competitive estimate, and a date and timeframe to come do the job. They were actually able to do it a bit sooner than they had estimated, which was great since they were booked weeks ahead. They came on time every day, and finished the work as promised. He told us of how to care for the yard the next growing season, and said they’d be back to check the yard as part of their guarantee.
After having a terrible experience with one “specialty” bamboo firm, we interviewed five others before choosing Justin. Best decision we could have made. I highly recommend him if you’re in the unfortunate situation of having bamboo...
Read moreJustin and his team was the clear choice for us after speaking with a few other options. His price was not the lowest but his knowledge and responsiveness made us confident he would do the best job. They showed up on time, worked extremely hard, and left the property very clean. The final product exceeded our expectations, we gained back so much space for the kids, and our time since we now don't have to cut back the bamboo a few times a year. The bamboo barrier they installed gives us confidence (money well spent to maintain the investment in the yard) that it will stay out of our yard if surrounding neighbor's bamboo try to creep back in, we love this suggestion Justin had to keep the property clean in the future. In the picture the barrier is higher than normal because we are leveling the land with topsoil then adding Green Giant arborvitaes but have not got to that step yet. To our surprise they kept the grass in great shape even when driving their machine in and out, I was not expecting that. Professional Bamboo Landscapers, they live up to the name. I would refer them to anyone. Thank you...
