Salt 2.0 is our friend group’s favorite restaurant, and I’d highly recommend it to anyone in the area looking for a reasonably priced bite to eat, a good conversation, or just a good spot to hang out with friends.
The food is consistently high quality and delicious. The menu isn’t insanely long, but it covers a wide range of types of food - there’s something for almost everyone’s taste. The menu is also designed with dietary restrictions in mind and has clearly labeled vegan, vegetarian, dairy free, and gluten free options, making this a great place to dine if you or your friends and family have food allergies or intolerances. The menu is fairly customizable, with options to add proteins, vegetables, and so on for almost every dish. The prices are very reasonable for the quality and quantity of food, and the daily happy hour menu makes it even more affordable.
The atmosphere in the restaurant is also very pleasant. Patrons choose their own seat rather than being seated by a waitress, and there are options to sit at a table, booth, or at the bar. Ordering can be done either through an app or by asking a staff member, depending on your preference. There are definitely busier hours, but I’ve never found that the noise in the restaurant gets too high to have a conversation at a normal speaking volume. The space is also large enough that it never feels crowded or claustrophobic. The bathrooms, bar, and dining area are always kept exceptionally clean.
We recently hosted a small party here and had a great experience. The staff were super professional and flexible when we were making our reservation, and when we got there, the tables were set up cleverly in a U shape to make conversations easier among a large group. The bartender offered to bring out more chairs and tables if they were needed. All the food and drinks came out very quickly, and the staff were all very polite and kind. They also have a catering menu and options for private parties and rentals. (My workplace sometimes orders catering from Salt 2.0, and the trays have also always been great.)
Salt has a very convenient location downtown, with on-street parking available and several nearby parking lots. There are both metered and un-metered options available within a reasonably short walking distance. It is near other downtown businesses and Franklin Plaza, so it’s very easy to go for an after-dinner stroll or get some dessert after your meal. If this place isn’t already on your radar for casual dining in Torrington, I highly recommend you...
Read more4/2023 - Happy to be back in CT and to revisit SALT 2.0 before a show at Warner Theatre, we continue to enjoy their food, drinks and space.
9/30/22 - We were sorry to learn karaoke had not been renewed here for Friday nights. A planned night of singing with friends for my partner's birthday left us flat. But for friends who stayed or were still coming we ordered some drinks and sat down for a few familiar items from Salt 2.0's menu before departing for a nearby dive bar that has karaoke every Friday. The Philly cheese steak quesadilla was everything you could imagine. Thanks to Salt for letting us serve a birthday cake we brought in for the occasion. They may bring karaoke back here for the holidays.
9/22 - Loved the tuna poke bowl w/o the peanuts and the ground beef bean burrito. Regularly ordered items noted before all good.
Salt 2.0 is growing their karaoke night. As a reminder, food here is basically for people not seeking a true dinner and are here to maybe sing drink and have some easy bites.
SALT 2.0 is the current occupant of this space next to the Warner Theater. It's predecessors had good food and service, as well. Backstage. Sliders. The size of the place must have a high overhead. SALT 2.0, a catering hub and bar for the Saltwater Grille in Litchfield, is not a dinner service restaurant that also offers monthly five course wine dinners. Their menu, (see my photos), is bar fare that mostly features Mexican and Asian food options.
Checking out their new karaoke night held on Fridays, we ordered edamame, a chicken and cheese quesadilla, nachos, and fried cauliflower off of the happy hour menu to share. (4:00-7:00PM daily) The edamame was steamed properly and well salted; the chicken and cheese quesadilla had a well portioned blend of each; the nachos had a mix of colored corn chips and plenty of salsa and queso sauce. We added ground beef. The fried cauliflower was not something we'd order again. It wasn't bad - just nebulous fried nuggets. Nice choice for vegetarians. Drinks had a good pour.
Since my partner was singing, we were there for awhile. Service was friendly. The karaoke is new at this location so it needs to build up a regular singer base. Right before closing, a few young adults and a senior came in to sing a tune. Good job by all. Over time, I ordered the Poke Tuna...
Read moreThe new smart phone ordering system sucks. It lacks a human experience, devoid of interaction and spontaneity. I would imagine people would buy more if a service suggested appetizers drinks and other items that they like. I don’t understand the cost savings for having an automated ordering system for dine in that feels much like the iPads you order from at large airports. I want a personal touch and so too many people when they go into a restaurant to eat inside. I would pay 20% more to have waitstaff. The food is decent. Even when you’re eating in the bulls are plastic. The bulls could be larger to accommodate tossing your salad. Or why not toss the salads before they get to the table. I would imagine behind the scenes a big city set up for speed. I’m not so sure Torrington Connecticut needs the same speed for lunch as New York City. Human interaction is definitely lacking. I won’t go back because of the atmosphere. The wait staff that was on duty seemed apologetic for the manner in which food was ordered and it was very nice of them to offer to place our orders. However we did have to walk back up to the front. Not very inviting. The food is decent if you are vegan or vegetarian you have plenty of options. The three stars or for quality of food and...
