We had been trying to work on our golden retriever’s leash pulling and severe dog reactivity for a while, but we were out of our depth and knew we wanted to do a board and train program. After researching K9 Mania and another facility in the same area, we decided to go with K9 mania as they had availability sooner and were slightly more affordable. As confident as we were that their 3-4 week training program would work, and as kind/diligent as the staff was, our experience had some bumps along the way. Despite our cons, our dog’s behavior is WAY better and much more manageable!
Unfortunately, he had some type of allergic reaction on his testicals. The itchyness led to excessive licking and by the time we saw him at the 2 week visit, he had a pretty bad infection. We had been receiving pictures, and video updates, but since he’s pretty fury none of the staff caught it sooner. We of course took him to the vet immediately, and they believed it might have been from friction while in the crate, along with the product they used to clean the crates, since they aren’t lined with anything for safety reasons. Another factor could have been he was accidentally fed another dog’s beef food for one or two meals (which he has sensitivity to; we disclosed this at drop off). Definitely not the norm, more of a freak accident, but nonetheless we stopped the board and train, and took him home. It took about two weeks and two rounds of medication for him to fully heal.
K9 Mania re-imbursed part of our payment in order to cover the entirety of the vet bills, and offered to continue his lessons through 8 hybrid training sessions. Now that he “graduated” we also have a one year access to the weekly group training sessions. It was definitely a much longer process. We dropped him off Memorial day weekend but between his infection/summer vacation plans he finished in September.
Despite the health scare, as I mentioned his reactivity and leash pulling are so much better! He rarely reacts to other dogs anymore; in big part of course because of the e-collar, which we would have never been comfortable using on our own or without professional guidance. Our trainer, Natalie, was really great and flexible! Our dog LOVES her, she was always so kind, loving and patient with him; and we developed a really great rapport over the last few months. We did at home training sessions, training sessions at the K9 Mania facility, at dog friendly public places like Home Depot, parks/trails, etc. There is still progess to be made, but we have a really solid base to continue working from, and his behavior on walks and outings has much improved.
Even though our dog’s health scare was not the norm, my advice would be to text daily for health updates ie: signs of weight loss (our dog did loose weight which we were expecting), poop health, physical abnormalities, etc. We didn’t receive texts daily, but around 3 times a week, along with one video a week. Maybe his infection could have been caught sooner if we had asked for more detailed updates. Also, even though it’s covenient to start boarding around major holidays, maybe look into how many dogs they are boarding at a time. As I mentioned, we dropped him off Memorial Day weekend, and a few staff members mentioned they were busier than usual with people boarding their dogs for the holiday. In our experience that was a con, since I feel it might have led to less attention to detail for my dog, and mistakes can (and did) happen with a busy workload.
Despite everything, all in all, really friendly staff...
Read moreI would like to start off by saying they all have a passion for training dogs and doing a good job! I signed up for the Master Dog Training Program,
Communication was horrible!
I would email them and call them with questions, two days later or two weeks later I would get a reply (I still have some unanswered emails I sent them). Sometimes I would leave a voicemail saying I’m gonna call back tomorrow at this exact time and I would call three days in a row at that time and then I would get a text message. (I know the world does not revolve around me or my questions and they have other clients, but you would think they can reply within 24-48 hours) I actually quit making payments while doing the Master Dog Training program so that way they would reach out to me to collect the payment and I could ask them my training questions…. Instead they chose to drop me from the program wait for the program to be over in September then contact me for the Final payments?!? I let them have it! 🤣 I paid them they sent me my certificate of completion but I just hate the FACT that the only way I was successful in this Dog Training program is because I reached out to local dog training companies in my city, and I went to nonprofit organizations that train dogs for soldiers in order to ask them my questions and get pointed in the right way, Luckily, 80% of all military dogs are trained in my city so finding a Dog Trainer was very easy for me! (I like to train Service dogs, not military dogs, and the training styles are night and day different!). Whenever they would send me friendly reminders to sign into the class, they would always tell me an hour late (time zone difference). You would think they would take into consideration time zones since their students are nationwide 🤷♂️.
Everything they teach in this program is awesome! I mainly signed up so that way I can get dogs AKC certified for titles and I am able to do so after this training program!! Definitely worth the money! I honestly want to give them a one star, but they do everything that they advertise and I accomplished my goal of learning how to train dogs for AKC titles, the videos they provide on their website are GREAT!
The only reason it’s not a 5 star review
is because instead of replying to my questions or reaching out during the training program for late payments they chose to drop me for lack of payment and choose to contact me when the program was over, only for the money!!!! Just that alone made me feel like all they care about is the money and not the students at all …. I still do have access to their website and classes like they advertise. They say I can still do one week of shadow training in New York like they advertise….. they do not advertise good communication in their self defense 🤣🤷♂️
But I do recommend this program!
If your not in New York you will need to find local dog trainers to get your answers sooner then later, depending on the type of dog you want to train, they cannot answer any service Dog Training questions They told me point blank if it’s not in their curriculum, they cannot help me. if you have a reactive dog question or anything that their course covers they will answer all those questions in great detail and have some good pointers for you. This course is definitely worth every...
Read moreNew Post 07/16/25. We just got back from vacation and boarded our dog Anubis with K9 Mania. This is our 4th year now with K9 Mania and we couldn't be any happier. They are awesome and I mean everyone there is so awesome. They take care of our dog like I would want someone to take care of him. They show him so much love and attention. That matters a lot to me. It usually takes him a couple of days for him to reacclamate to our home because he is so happy there that he gets a little depressed when he leaves. If you're looking for a boarding place that you can feel your dog is in good hands, this is the place.
New Post. My latest stay with K-9 Mania was from 12/25/24 to 01/06/24. I canot say enough about how great they are. I love my dog Anubis and they love him too. They take such good care of him. They do everything to make Anubis happy and us happy. Every time I go away and have to board him, I will only board him with K-9 Mania. I never have to worry if he is being well taken care of. I highly, highly recommend them if you need to board your dog or have your dog trained. They do an outstanding job of making sure that you and your dog are happy. I would rate them higher if I could.
New boarding with K9 Mania.12-23-23 to 01/04/24. As always our dog comes home happy and healthy. The trainers at K9 Mania are all great especially Olivia. She took care of our dog. She's Awesome. I feel very comfortable having leaving Anubis with K9 Mania. This is our sixth time that our dog has stayed with them and he just loves it. I really like how they care for our dog. K9 Mania gets 5 Stars for me.
My dog child Anubis, who we love so dearly has stayed with K9 Mania 4 times since 09/22 and I could honestly say that we left him in great hands with K9 Mania. Valeria is in charge of the boarding program. She is such a lovely person to work with and very accommodating. Honestly, they did such a great job boarding him that Anubis was sad to come home. My trainer Sean, is so fantastic. He has trained Anubis to be such an obedient dog. He is so well behaved and he has addressed all the issues we had previously before training started. I highly recommend K9 Mania for anyone looking for a great place to board there 🐕 dog and their training program is fantastic for correcting all issues your dog may have. Our dog came back so well behaved. I really felt very comfortable leaving him there knowing he's in great hands. If I could give them a higher rating, I would. They get a five out of five stars from me. We actually boarded Anubis in April and May of 2024 for 5 and 6 days, respectively. They were awesome as always. They take care of our dog like family. We feel very confident every time we leave him there that he's in great hands. He actually looks forward to being there. He knows he's going there as we're on the road and gets all excited. We're going away for 2 weeks next month and guess where he's staying, K-9 Mania....
