I was most distressed by the scene made by a burly white-haired fellow at the register. After speaking with Michael on the telephone a few months back, when I told him that two mandarin azaleas that were purchased in May a couple of years ago died (one the first year and the second the following year) he told me to bring in the receipt at my convenience and some kind of refund would be given....so I did...and was bruskly-rudely-bullied by the burly fellow. Also purchased were three false cypresses at over 100 each that are not doing well and I wanted to discuss how to treat them and he was not even interested in looking at the photos that I had taken. The plants totaled nearly 400.00 and were planted by a gardener recommended by Stables. I had be told to bring in the receipt and some accommodation would be made. NEVER did I think I would be walking into such a humiliating scene. I should have brought the first dead plant in the first year but my gardener discarded it and I thought well it was only 25. Then the second one died so they were both poor quality specimens. Even if the guarantee expired THERE WAS NO REASON FOR THE RUDENESS DISPLAYED TOWARD ME....especially since I was invited to come in for some accommodation and had a question about three shrubs purchased there. This kind of behavior toward people is inappropriate and everyone...
Read moreI've shopped at many garden centers. Stables is one of the few places that is NOT a chain store staffed by people who likely worked at Taco Bell the week before. The staff is knowledgeable and courteous. And even on the weekend, when it is busiest and you might have to wait a few minutes to have questions answered--there are the same faces in the nursery--ready and able to help. The last project I did involved replacing overgrown "builder" foundation shrubs. I went to Stables with pictures of the area and measurements, and they helped me select appropriate shrubs--without any landscape design charges. Another reason I shop there: This past summer, I also noticed the difference in quality of plants--early in the season--other nurseries had stock that appeared yellow and wilted. While at Stables, the plants all looked green...
Read moreThis place has EVERYTHING. Annuals, perennials, vegetables, seeds, pottery, soil, soil amendments, garden tools/hardware, garden decor, mulch (they even are regularly stocked with coco shell and pine bark nuggets, which no one else is), and even pool chemicals (except salt bags). I think they have the largest selection of stuff of any nursery I have ever seen, and even beats Home Depot's garden department. Plus, they have terrific service - will help you find stuff, get stuff onto your cart, and into your car. AND, they do deliveries for $50 - however much stuff can be fit on the truck for the flat fee. Their prices are competitive. For example - 40 lb. bag of Hampton compost for $4.59. Coco fiber basket liners (12-inch) for $4.99. Proven Winners 4.25"...
