Ben's Garden — Local services in Town of Brookhaven

Owner is incredibly rude! There were a bunch of bird figurines arranged on a shelf, I picked one up and accidentally knocked a couple over - none were damaged and I apologized right away. Owner came over and said very rudely “you shouldn’t touch anything if you’re not gonna buy it.” I WAS gonna buy it, but changed my mind because his attitude was so bad. He kept making snarky comments and staring at me as I looked at the item I was interested in so I just left and won’t ever come back. I can see from the other reviews that I’m not alone in this experience either, and in fact another man was standing outside the store when I walked out and told me he had just had a similar experience.

Edit: I can’t reply to the owner’s reply so I’ll do so here - that is not what happened. I nervously laughed when your associate came over to scold me because I was so taken aback by his demeanor (which is not quite the same as me “and my friend laughing about” dropping the item). By no means did he just politely offer to help - he said I shouldn’t touch anything I don’t plan to buy and rudely pointed out how expensive the figurines are. And as I said in my original review, I WAS planning to buy the figurine. As you said, accidents happen - I knocked over the items by mistake and apologized, and absolutely would’ve offered to pay had any been damaged. Given that quite a few other reviewers seem to have had a similar experience in your store, perhaps some introspection on customer service...

Rewriting my review because the store owner decided reply to my first review with lies and slander. During my visit to the store the person at the store had an attitude toward my aunt and me. After my aunt dropped an item by mistake, he made snarky comments. Then in response to her question about an item, he told her to read the product detail instead of helping her. In both instances he had an attitude that made it seem like we didn’t deserve his attention.

The shop owner’s response to my initial review, where I simply said “the shopkeeper has a chip on his shoulder,” claimed that I used “profanity and aggressive language.” This is simply false and slanderous. It only speaks to the problem I raised in my initial review.

Just a lovely, unique, fabulous store in the gorgeous stony brook village shopping area. Across from the inlet to the Long Island sound makes for a wonderful backdrop to a fabulous store. All kinds of interesting finds very unique perfect for gifting even at the last minute there's always something to grab including unique gifts, candles, Home goods,fabulous books,and beautiful sentimental cards . Even for the most difficult person to buy for there is a gift in Ben's garden waiting for them! The staff also goes well above and beyond and does absolutely beautiful gift wrapping to add an element of specialness to anything that you buy.
