To say Uncle Giuseppe’s in Port Jefferson saved the day yesterday would be an understatement.
I️ work for Neiman Marcus and prior to that I️ was the NE Regional HR Director for Saks 5th Ave., both extraordinary places with extraordinary merchandise.
But what sets them apart is their service. In my book Uncle Giuseppe’s is the only “luxury supermarket” on Long Island. The why is very simple. It’s the PEOPLE. Their presentation is flawless, BUT their employees never cease to “WOW” me.
My granddaughter had her sr prom yesterday. I️ ordered a large tray of chocolate covered strawberries on Wednesday to be delivered Thursday by 10:00 am. Without going into all the exhausting details, I’ll highlight a few. 1:4 phone calls 2: No manager available to speak to me 3: A promised call back that never received 4:Unable to deliver on time 5: A person at the edible store in Rocky Point that hung up on me & admitted to doing so. 6: A promised phone call to my daughter about the approx dely time that didn’t occur. 7: My granddaughter texting me … “Grandma when is my surprise coming?” 8:Followed by “It’s ok grandma I️ love you!”
That’s when I️ went to “let’s get this done mode!” Let’s make the impossible possible!
First thought? Uncle Giuseppe’s in Port Jefferson. Enter: Jake at CS
Jake was friendly & polite. He listened and wanted to help. I️ needed a dz and a half cho covered strawberries delivered to Miller Place & we had about 1 hour.
Jake followed up. He communicated with his colleagues. He texted me with updates. JAKE DID A REMARKABLE JOB!
I’m so grateful to UG’s in Port Jefferson! (I’m also sending a shout out to Smithtown and Melville who also seem to go over and above ALL THE TIME!)
My grand daughter LOVED the strawberries. JAKE made sure all the details were perfect. Box or tray? White or milk chocolate? Color of the bow? AND then he sent me a picture of the finished product and texted me when it was on its way!!!
Seriously who does that?
Once again my most sincere thanks to Jake and UG’s in Port Jefferson for moving a mountain!

Read moreGirl in the bakery section was rude. Was ignored for 5 Minutes. Then when I asked if I could be assisted she said “hold on”!! I’m the paying customer. YOU are the worker. Get another job if you can’t have a decent customer service persona. Rude as all hell. In fact the Woman cashier in the Morning. Only lane open is extremely rude. Watching Me as I attempt to carry 3 bottles of water and a few other things. Doesn’t even offer any help or to ask if She could get someone to assist Me with My purchase to the Car. Also $12.00 for a salad that has the bitter part of the lettuce as well as the butt end of the lettuce thrown in there. Are you kidding Me? Expensive salad and yellow bitter lettuce and the chicken not fully cooked.
Edit: They now have even more yellow bitter lettuce with hard pieces. Triple the dressing enough for 3 salads and also took away half the chicken and half the croutons. Greedy! Whoever makes these salads are mentally touched.
Update: The Front end Guy. I think His name is Nick. Another rude employee. Doesn’t anyone check these People before hiring?… Looked down His down at Me at the register all because I didn’t want to pay 25 cents for a bag. Made a remark and walked away like the coward He is. But no one will talk to him or put Him in His place. Smh.
Edit: 1/07/2024- Went in there before to see if they got any better with the quality of their salads and nope! Still wilted and STILL almost $20.00 Dollars smh. But don’t bother reaching out because They will not get back to you. Food quality for these prices is down the drain. Whoever buys produce needs another job.
Edit: SIP N SWIRL Ice cream from NJ is horrible. Exp date is 8 months out but it has freezer burn. You let items like this out...
Read moreI don’t shop here regularly but I have shopped here many times , most recently 2 days before Christmas. Overall the store has consistently great choices of specialty products and prepared foods. They do have a respectable seafood department also , however this year I had an issue. On my most recent visit I purchased top neck clams , and “Dayboat, dry” sea scallops, a family favorite and pricey holiday treat in our house. The scallops didn’t look like the usual Untreated , dry dayboat scallops that vary in color , and have NO sodium tripolyphosphate or other preserving compounds added , but the counter person assured me that the product was in fact what are known as “dry scallops” , and at 34.99/lb which is truly a high price, I assumed they were.
These are usually the most tender natural shellfish sold in the fish markets usually harvested within close proximity to the the US Coastline in the East. Turns out the scallops were not in fact what they claimed. As soon as I bit into one I knew by the rubbery texture and taste that I got the old bait and switch . There was also a lot of water shed during the cooking process , yet another tell tale sign. These were in fact treated sea scallops at the premium product price. I should have followed my instincts and initial visual concerns. Not something I would expect at a supposedly premium market that charges premium prices. Even my wife knew these were not the right scallops. I am hoping this was a “one off” holiday supply chain issue. You can...
